The Jew and I stumbled into Tacos Gringos with Monique one night, the employees said they were drunk, we used a breathalyser on them (he carries one around for fun) and they most definitely were. I now officially love them.

The emailer raises some interesting questions as to why these places might be gone. At lunch yesterday, a friend mentioned that nearly every fast "food" outlet on the Ave has also closed. And if starving/stoned students aren't getting their 99 cent scarf on, something seems to be up.

@4 I agree. Not that I love the food, but I'm always a little shocked when a national franchise fast food joint closes down. These companies put big dollars into analyzing where to site franchises so they wont fail. So when they go under, you have to wonder what's up?

Burger King is the exception--a whole bunch of them have closed down, but their food sets a new nadir in nasty, so it explains itself.

Side note: People who think they're better than everyone for not eating at these places (Taco Bell, JITB, KFC), or people who list nutrition facts and talk about how good Fast Food Nation was...these are people who deserve to die. Tacos Gringos and Dicks are my faves. But one of the nice things, for those of us who don't just go to the Hill, is discovering the taco place in Lower Queen Anne between the Uptown Espresso and Uptown theater.

Unfortunately, it does not have a deck.

I'd kill for a Wendy's Frosty and some (fresh)hot fries right now.

And the McDonald's Southern Chicken Sandwich is surprisingly good; a juicy chicken sandwich that actually tastes like chicken. And oddly garnished with pickels but no mayo or dressing of any kind.

And as a transplanted Midwesterner, I occassionally keen for Sonic and Long John Silvers...

I can handle all of the fast food joints leaving Broadway (keep Dick's), but the fabulous Russian peroski place is moving down to somewhere around 3rd and Cherry (to make way for the Sound Transit station). That's way too far. I needs me some peroski within walking distance.

Check your facts about the Jack in the Box. There has been some deals going on around what will replace the KFC and some current and future tenants have pushed for something less... fast foody.

I got aggravated by comments from my friends i've talked to about this as well. I under-
stand that its absolutely so not "cool" or "in" to say you enjoy a guilty pleasure like Jack in the Box or Taco Bell, however this makes affordable food on the hill disappear
as well in a way.
I was really annoyed by the taco bell vanishing though, I enjoyed the company of the guinean dudes who worked the night shift there awhile back. They made the burritos like the place was closing - huge.
By the way, I get chastised sometimes about my "mindless consumer buying into a soul-less corporation" eating habits by my friends who smoke camels- its you not the handlebar moustache that is ironic kids!
