Oh and I'd like to hear from the people in Seattle that loves temperatures in the 50s in June in this city. I'm sure it's the same group of people that hate it when it's over 75 degrees in Seattle.

Just pray it does not rain on our parade: it almost did last year and was FUCKING COLD!!!!

Sure it's gray and drizzly here. But at least we don't have to worry about tornadoes, flash floods, suffocating humidity, or roasting heat.

I don't think the sun set at all this weekend. That's how sunny it was.

Other reasons: I'm not filthy rich, I have no discernable job skillz, I don't hate my family enough to put 5000 miles between us.

Really, though--anyone who moved here doesn't have the right to complain about the rain. It's not as if Seattle is known for much else, so you knew exactly what you were getting into. If you're so despondent about the lack of sun, move somewhere else and take your umbrella with you.

If it snows, now that would piss me off. Or a giant windstorm that wreaks havoc on my tender young tomato plants.

After about 10 years in the City, I can't decide if we have the best weather in the country, or the worst.

Btw, my gripe with the Pride committee is that they fucking plan pride the same weekend as SF, NYC, Toronto, and Chicago. I wonder when the committee will get it through their fucking heads that

That's rain four out of the last five years. A few degrees colder, but nothing remarkable.

I live just over the crest of CapHill on the lake Washington side, so tsunamis be-damned; I won't get any wetter then than I am now.

As for earthquakes, well tectonic plate shifting isn't exactly "weather", so it doesn't count.

Besides, when you've lived through several volcanic eruptions, it's hard to get worked up over other geological phenomena.

That's one of the reasons why some city officials are dragging their heels on building a BART/SkyTrain-like system.

When I lived in the City in the early/mid '80's, the foggy, cold, windy, gray, wet weather was a pereneal topic for kvetching from both locals and transplants alike.

And of course, if you're lucky, you might be able to afford to relocate to say, Hayward or the Castro Valley, 'cause I hear that even with a 20% drop in housing prices, San Fran is still one of the most expensive metropolitan areas in the country.

Yeah, '93 was bad. It was one of those "Years without a Summer" we get every decade or two. And it sucked. I really, really hope that doesn't happen this year, because if Summer never really shows up it is fucking awful.

So far, though, this June is sucking way more than most. The heat keeps kicking on in our house. Normally we don't have to turn the heat on in June, even if the high temps are in the 60s. And I had to get my wool coat back out of the closet to go out in the evenings.

I saw someone wearing a knitted ski cap waking down our street yesterday.

It's not the rain that is getting me down so much as the cold. Highs in the low 50s are not June weather in Seattle. Rain, sure. A little bit cool, sure. But this is abnormal. I am a Seattle native, too -- I have seen some pretty crappy summer weather in my lifetime.

I personally am enjoying the wierd mix of super-windy and bright cloudy sky at the moment. Seattle's weather is awesome, and obviously it weeds out the weak.

And you can never really tell what will take off in comments. But thank you for doing your part, Doc.

June is not always like this, though it is often cloudy and cool. But this is colder. A little Googling shows the stats to prove it. For example, the Times posted the other day:

59.2: Average temperature for the first week of June for the past 60 years

52.5: Average temperature for the first week of June 2008

That's a relatively significant difference in that for many of us it means the difference between having to heat our homes with outrageously expensive fuel this month, or not.

They also said it was likely that today would break a record for lowest high temp on this date.

Especially since I've spent the last 20 yrs in MN. Same seasonal variation as ID, just a little more extreme.

Then again, at least I don't have to worry about trying to find the money for air conditioning like my friend in PA.
