Honestly, Rebecca, It Just Seems a Little Late In the Game for That, You Know?

posted by on June 10 at 16:21 PM

Writes Slog tipper Rebecca…

Slog, you are falling behind. It’s been 24 hours since Kucinich read 35 articles of impeachment against President Bush, and you haven’t posted about it. C’mon, where’s the outrage that the Democratic party leadership still thinks that following up on impeachment would somehow hurt them? What happened to ITMFA?

Pigs in boots, indeed.

Rebecca drew our attention to this post at Kos, which gives a full accounting of Dennis Kucinich’s efforts to impeach George W. Bush six months before the end of his second, admittedly disastrous, term. Still, if Bush is trying to gin up a war with Iran before his term expires, or negotiate a treaty with the Iraqi government that compels the next president to build 58 military bases in Iraq, maybe we do still need to impeach the motherfucker already…

Most people have the decency to jerk off in private, you know?

At least Mr. Poe wears gloves when he does.

Usually.

Where's the outrage?

It's non-existent in large numbers, equally due to apathy, ignorance and learned helplessness.

It's not a bad idea to remove Bush's pardon power before he invokes it en masse in the eleventh hour of his term.

Oh, and I guess there's also the total failure of our system of government, and the fact that all of our nation's vaunted institutions have become synonymous with failure, stupidity, corruption and incompetence.

Oh, yeah, and Bison, how are you going to do that exactly? This thing isn't even going to come to a vote. It's grandstanding.

Kucinich's resolution is being reread to Congress at this moment (6:27 PST, CSPAN) & there is going to be a vote on it by Wednesday. Maybe many, many people were scared of disappearing if they had moved against the Bush crime family at an earlier date...

Idiot Boy is in Europe this week and even they aren't protesting in large crowds like they used to. The Europeans know as well as we do what a lame Daffy Duck he is. It's not so much apathy, it's the feeling that since the eight year nightmare is almost over, what's the point?

Impeachment isn't gonna happen anyway, not when this congress doesn't even have the votes to override a veto on children's health care. But maybe next year President Obama will set up some sort of truth commission to force Bush and company to answer for their crimes. They'll get what's coming to them in the history books decades from now but I don't want to wait that long.

Reading that article, it seems very obvious that while Bush and Co are talking a good game about getting Iraq secure and us out of there, it feels a hell of a lot more like they're actively working against it. It's no wonder so many Iraqis are pissed and are fighting the US troops.

My friend Scott creates video cartoons for Salon, he posted one today about the articles of impeachment:

Not only should he be impeached to prevent him from starting a war with Iran and forcing the next president to build bases in Iraq, he should be impeached because we shouldn't set the precedent of allowing a president who breaks the law left and right to finish his term and retire gracefully.
No, he won't be impeached, and that's what I'm furious about. Because it's ridiculous. This country needs to impeach him, and the Democratic leadership natters about the damage it will do the country and the party. I call bullshit. Not impeaching him, not even attempting to, damages the party far more than the proceedings would. What could be worse for the party than allying with its greatest enemy?

And I may be a bitch, but I did think the pig was cute. I just also thought that if the Slog staff had time to blog about the pig, then it fucking well ought to have had the time to blog about this.
