The old "(fill in the blank) gives a performance of a lifetime and is an Oscar shoo-in!!!" bit has been used by Hollywood p.r. firms since the days of Joan Crawford/Mildred Pierce... It's an obvious cheap way to get publicity for a soon to open film, plus it sometimes actually works and they get an Oscar or at least a nomination.
