Beep beep! Out of my way presumptive nominee!
How dare you sexistly dismiss the psychopathic old broads for Hillary!
GORE to endorse Obama today! He is to ask all of us to do whatever we can to make sure he wins. I e-mailed the site and said that if Gore wanted to be VP that would be VERY helpful. (I want to watch Gore and Bobby Jindal debate this fall really really badly!)
Also, am I not right in that women under-45 went for Obama 2 to 1? And that black women went for Obama at the rate of like 7 to 1?
The Baby Boomer generation is big (the "boom" is there for a reason) and the fact is that a majority of Baby Boomer White and Latino women prefered Hillary Clinton. She didn't win every female demographic. Far from it.
The media's broad brush of "women preferring Clinton" really bothered me. They never said "men prefer Obama" merely because he scored higher among one generational demographic.
I always thought they were Republican operatives anyway. I mean, what self respecting woman is going to vote for a party that wants to make them second class citizens based on bullshit religion?
No, Rich is wrong about Obama doing better with women than either Gore or Kerry did. The key is to incorporate both kinds of facts, the true and the not true. I forget how this story gets told. Susan? Susan Hu? Or PC. Whatever. Susan will explain it for us, won't you?
I'll never forget how CLINTON DESTROYED THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY. What was the bitch thinking by staying in the race so long, leaving us only the rest of June, July, August, September, and October to inform potential voters that there's another guy, Barack Obama, running for president?
Amen, Dan.
Yes, but didn't Slog give a few of those women a lot of space recently?
There is a potential for significant fall off in HRC voters not voting for Obama.
The vast majority will, of course, vote for Obama and will not fall off. But wheen you can win or lose a swing state by 527 votes or 4,000 votes or so, it really matters if the HRC fall off is 12% (lots) or 5% (normal, there's always some fall off).
Women are 54% of all voters and this fall off factor could easily end up being a few points in the fall election, more than enough to swing several states.
It's one of many things that can be the margin in a close election.
Reality: Most women support Obama.
Fake News Reality: Women support Clinton.
Real voters make the choice, not fake voters.
Well, unless you use electronic voting ...
@9
Thx Suz. Knew you could.
@6 get it right, it's Susan Hudgens - Not Hu. egg.
Obama will probably lose out on two key constituencies that Clinton would have brought to the table;
1. Republican/Independent women crossover voters
2. Latino Voters (esp the many who voted for Bush).
Those were 2 key voting blocks that Clinton could have delivered. This should not be a big surprise to anyone who pays the least bit of attention to the 'contest' of running for President..
For those who place their support based on 'elect-ability' issues they have calculated that Obama will bring urban, young progressive voters and black voters out in greater numbers than we have ever seen.
This country is pretty well split and a lot of the 'contest for president' comes down to playing at the margins.
I do beleive that vast numbers of young, urbanites and blacks will actually turn out in droves because they are inspired by Obama. And, I agree that dawdering old flippy floppy McCain is a pretty lousy comparison.
No, Janey. Obama has got women as everyone has been saying and he's got Latinos by a twenty point margin (or is it thirty? I can't remember).
@9...
"let's" = "let us."
Thank you for playing Slog.
I think there needs to be some coverage of women for Obama after the rather large splash Harriet Christian made. That lady was pure showbiz - as in amateur night at the old Foxxes ;-)
@13 - nope, not according to polls (including right-wing ones)
see, i was confused, i was CERTAIN the headline of the day was "Yankees' Wang to be on crutches for at least 6 weeks".
No, it was supposed to be Al Gore Endorses Tiger Woods.
WOW! What a politically brave move for Al Gore to make!
In the same press release, he endorsed "No Country for Old Men" to win the Oscar...
Vince @5:
Here's a dispatch from deep in Red State land: bullshit religions are approx. 50% women. Many of them believe all sorts of things, including, "I don't think a woman should be president."
Josh Bomb @18, thanks for going blue first.
I thought I was going to have to do it, by pointing out to Dan that he posted that headline but failed to make a joke about pegging.
PLEASE VOTE FOR ME YOU CUNTS!
- John McCain
We will fuking re-defeat NO-Bama in November
