The word father will never be removed from birth certificates because there's a shitload of money in shaking down men for paternity payments.

Abortions for all!

Too late! Both my kids' birth certificates list two dads, no mom. One just got the academic achievement award in his elementary class for this year. If only he'd had a mother . . . .

From one of the pamphlets in the "Marriage Protection Kit":

"Discrimination occurs when someone is unjustly denied some benefit or opportunity. But it must first be demonstrated that such persons deserve to be treated equally regarding the point in question."

There it is, folks. Circular logic at its best.

I'm sure they are upset that my long-time boyfriend and I are going to get married tomorrow.

I watched the news today about the little boy being beaten. I just got a horrible, sick feeling the rest of the day!
I'm glad you are brining attention to abuse and how messed up our system is...
Hugs to you Dan!

@6: The California Court decision leaves little doubt that GLBT people do in fact deserve to be treated equally. It is quite a powerful opinion.

Not to mention the fact we're discussing birth certificates here. A state-issued document saying a baby has legitimately entered the population stream. Nothing more. The state can--and does--change the patrimony listed on the certificate, rewriting personal, family history, whenever legal necessity dictates, ie: adoption.

Logical Fallacy: Slippery Slope.

Because A happens, B follows.

marriage protection kit? will this protect me from marriage? so if some guy (say, hernandez) is barreling down the street toward me hollering "i'm gonna marry you, baby!", all i need to do is whip out this kit and it stops him in his tracks? send me one STAT!

Super sad story.

I can't believe nobody could stop him.

How hard is it to get someone on the ground and in a head lock? Guillotine choke?

It wasn't in Seattle ... it was in farm country ... these people should have known some self-defense and submission techniques!

I thought Max Solomon @11 was misstating the slippery slope. Turns out I was ignorant of of the term's specific meaning in logical argument.

Max oversimplifies a bit, though. What makes it a fallacy is the absence of any coherently argued chain of causation.

Dan, I think that many of us who have seen the continuing saga of "Every Child Deserves a Mother and a Father" are as convinced as we're ever going to be by all of the anecdotal evidence. May I suggest providing an occasional link to peer-reviewed research (it's out there) that supports your cause? Thanks.

Dan is to evidence as anal sex is to triplet births. He posts these because they are easy and simple and his rather stunningly shallow mind thinks he's making some sort of point beyond creating a carnival for sick voyeurism and the endlessly challenging journey to new jokes about child abuse.

It's Idiotworld. Welcome to the stupid.

Dan,
All right, it's clear this kid didn't deserve this kind of a father. Many fathers are murderous pricks. They are also absent. And, it is contributing to wider social dysfunction.

Here's a question for you: What did you think of Obama's speech yesterday on Father's Day? He mentioned every child needs a father. He talked of a "hole in his heart"
regarding his own absent father. He spoke with candor. I thought it quite a brave speech and more important than the Philly one. It also opened a can of worms. I'm fairly certain it didn't please too many black, gay or single parents of any stripe. Al Sharpton responded by saying it was necessary to bring it up but that some blacks might not react favorably to it. I'm also fairly certain he made the Family Research Council happy.

What Obama said was fair, if you take it to mean that no child deserves to be abandoned by those who brought him/her into this world. Surely that is not an unfair assessment. If a gay couple (or even a single parent) brings a child into the world, the child lacks nothing - well, nothing but legal protection (except in CA and MA, and a few civil-union states). Now, if one of those parents up and disappears... NOW the kid will suffer. It's not about making sure every kid has the exact same set of parents; it's about taking responsibility and stepping up so that your children don't have to live with that abandonment for the rest of their lives.

@20 "Many fathers are murderous pricks."

Well, no, they aren't. It's only a very tiny minority that kill. You wouldn't know that by Dan's moronathons of these but it's true. The vast majority of mothers and fathers don't abuse or neglect or kill their kids. And the vast majority of homosexuals raising kids do not do so with rainbow sheened angel wings bearing them gracefully and perfectly through a Edenesque garden of parenting delights. They fuck up as much as anyone else. And as I have to keep explaining to any simpleton who actually believes Savage is making a real point here - you don't prove a positive by proving the negative. Which, of course, he fails miserably even at that.

And as much as I admire 20 and 21's thoughtful responses and attempts to bring a bit of reason to the discussion I am afraid it's lost on Savage's stuck record. I actually think he truly believes he's making a legitimate point with this shit. Amazing.

@22
Thanks for the acknowledgement. By "many fathers are murderous pricks", I used hyperbole. One father that kills his own child is too many as this unfortunate kid found out.

@21
I, indeed meant no child deserves to be abandoned. As an adopted child, I agree with you.

I still believe that the situation in the African-American community is castastrophic. Lack of fathers is unequivocally contributing to social dysfunction(s). Look at prison populations & homelessness populations. African-American males are overrepresented. Anyone with an ounce of concern for the African-American family, America or the human race sees this. The following gentlemen have: Bill Cosby, Barack Obama, Leonard Pitts (syndicated columnist) and I believe Jason Whitlock of the Kansas City Star (he largely comments on the violence occurring among young black males). And, I do as well. This is an extremely urgent problem that actually transcends politics.

Actually, Dan has stated on this site why he publishes these stories. And it's not for shallow-minded reasons.

Dan: You should get everyone to send off for the "marriage protection kit". Bankrupt the MF's with shipping charges! I'm requesting mine today. (bet it doesn't come with any condoms, though)
