The Gay Pride Fest was the same weekend. I recalled your story (Was it The Geography of Shame?) as I took it all in - The Hotel Davenport, Dempsey's Brass Rail, Gay Pride in Spokane, Jim West, Out and Proud Democrats vs closeted Republicans, the Pacific Place Mall knock-off. Everyone was very tolerant and polite (oblivious even) to the gay boys & girls running around downtown and Riverfront Park (no counter protesters) and the 45-60 year old gay and lesbian couples. What was missing was that whole 30-something segment of the queer community.
