Not feeling this one. The effective use of a tight color range bespeaks confidence, but the sharpness of the chair conflicts with the fuzzed-out, dauby impasto of the rest of the painting and tells me the artist is afraid to completely let go of formal specificity.

I need a drink.

Comment by Abigail

Oh, HELLS YEAH!!! Yay, Eric! I knew who did this painting before I got to the caption because I recognized the studio but also because Eric has (especially recently) developed such a distinct painting style that there's no one else it could be!...I really love this one. Mr. Elliott is admirably restrained with color, and so humble with his compositions and subject matter. I love the steely baby blues and hints of siennas on the sink, and the little touches of pink on the bottle in front of the pale naples-yellow box in the foreground. Also the surface of the chair seat is perfect, and I love how selective the paint build-up is across the canvas...The whole image has the same soulful quietude as the best Gwen John paintings. Fucking bravo, dude. I hope someone gives him a butt-ton of money for this.
