I know why auction stories make the news; I get it. But they drive me crazy with their fundamental meaninglessness. Here’s the latest, for what it’s worth, which is nothing. (You mean, people like buying Monets??!??!!)

Well I think $80.5 million represents an interesting set of choices by the buyer, especially considering the context, and the limitations they are working with. On one level it is an amount that challenges the expectations of the art buying news public, while looked at a different way it subverts the entire premise of art buying news and those who consume it.
