So long as we have the people behind the movie Apollo 54, we should not fear the replacing of the old guard with the new guard.

WAY TO MISS THE FUCKING POINT, #2

Oh, give it a rest, they grow producers, executive producers, script writers, actors, directors, and all that in orange groves all over Cali, @3.

Heck, the closing night film had something like seven producers ...

Do you have a fucking clue who Stan Winston is, Will?

It's sad that he's gone, but judging by those pictures, it seems like the world might be a safer place for it.

I was ready to give Will @2 the benefit of the doubt that he had something faintly resembling a point, however tone-deaf and self-interested it might be.

Will @4 sure cleared that up. What was I thinking?!

Will, the point you're trying to make here is astoundingly retarded. It's not even a point. Does this stupid shit pop up in your head every time someone cardinal in arts/entertainment dies?

And producers? PRODUCERS?! God, just shut the fuck up. Don't even reply.

@4 - That may be true, but SFX gurus like Stan Winston are one in a million, so fuck off.

What's sad for geeks is that you just put a 391KB image on the front page, but I digress...

The man was a genius. So sad he has passed on.

do you have a clue who any of the greats who've died over the last 20 years are, Jonah?

thought so.

There are always more. People die. Get over it.

"Closing Night Film"...

If there was ever a sentiment that could sum up the eternal douchebaginess of SIFF fans, I would have put money on it that it would come from Will in Seattle.

@4 How true, how true. And they're all equally talented, creative, if not seminal in their field, to boot.

Just like sports figures. Politicians. Attorneys. MD's. CPA's.

And blog commenters.

Will @12, I'm not Jonah, but just off the top of my head...

Junzo Itami
Jim Henson
Stanley Kubrick
Mel Blanc
Chuck Jones

Not to mention Osamu Tezuka.

When Stan Winston dies, Stan Winston died.

When Will in Seattle dies, some douchebag died.

Did you actually watch Kung Fu Panda?

There are many many many SFX gurus. Animation, stop motion, candlestick, pyro, you name it.

They all are human. they all die.

Now, Mel Blanc and Chuck Jones .... those I miss.

Will in Seattle.

What do you do for a living that gives you time to do jack shit all day, except troll local blogs? Your life is sad.

Will @18, now I get it. You do miss people of singular significance after their passing; you simply don't consider it possible for anyone working in SFX to make a contribution sufficiently unique to missed, regardless of their skill or talent.

Please pardon us if our respect for Stan Winston and sadness at his passing has caused offense by implying that that such populist work as SFX could ever aspire to the cultural or artistic significance of Looney Tunes.

@19, avoiding rational thought frees up a big part of his day.

Ask the average guy in the street - I seriously doubt they even know who the guy is. Or that they'll care tomorrow.

but I'll give you Itari - good counterpoint. And they don't know who that is either - all they care about is who did the special effects for halftime at the Super Bowl.

Will @22, ok, now I really see your point.

The average guy on the street would know exactly who Chuck Jones and Mel Blanc are.  Who could forget the widespread outpouring of grief when each of them passed?

Will @ 19, And that's their loss. The man was a great and I know that his work has shaped a large portion of my cinematical viewing. He won 4 Oscars and rightly so. His work was obvious when you saw it. He was a large part of Aliens, Predator, Jurassic Park, Interview with the Vampire, Small Soldiers, End of Days, Pearl Harbor, A.I., Big Fish, Constantine, Terminator, Terminator 2 and most recently the suit for Iron Man.

I don't care if his name isn't as recognizable as Brad Pitt. That's not the point. The point is that he was a genius and I, at least, am very sad that I'll never get to see him make anything else.

It's just a flesh wound.

I'm feeling better.

I'm quite fine.

Fuck, you guys are a bunch of shits. It is always sad when a talented, imaginative, creative soul dies. That's why no one is going to mourn Will.
