Not that it really makes a difference to the point of this post, but I think Locus is based out of Oakland or Berkeley.
The perfect pun is one that, like this one, has readers like me already sifting through variants of "you fucking maroon" for the comments before we get it. Nicely done.
Paul, did Connie Willis do anything noteworthily awesome as MC, or are you just affirming her general awesomeosity?
@1: "Locus Magazine, covering the science fiction and fantasy field since 1968, is a monthly... Locus publishes news of the Science Fiction publishing field with extensive reviews and listings of new science fiction books and magazines. The magazine is published from Oakland, California."

ugh--chabon won? he is one of the most uniinteresting writers, and it pains me to see him winning so many genre awards. also, are you a sf fan, paul? just curious because it seems like most non-sf fans like willis, while regular readers of the genre tend to think less of her work.
I loved HEART SHAPED BOX; Hill's collection of short stories 20th CENTURY GHOSTS is EVEN BETTER! Yes, in King like fashion, he makes you want to sleep with the lights on (mostly because you don't want to stop reading!). Congrats to him for winning!

I'm a big fan of China Mieville. I've read all his previous books, but haven't got to Un Lun Dun yet. I'll have to put that one on my birthday list.
The Chabon novel hasn't actually won the Hugo yet. Those aren't awarded until August, and the voting is still going on.
Chabon also did not win the Edgar for which his book was nominated. He's not exactly "sweeping" genre awards. He won the Nebula. So far that's it as far as I remember.
Also, I'm getting a little tired of seeing Joe Hill referred to as Stephen King's son. Yes, I know that he is his son. Julian Hawthorne was Nathaniel Hawthorne's son, and his career was nowhere near as illustrious. It particularly irritates me because Hill claims to not want to ride on his father's coattails, but a lot of articles continue to use that as an "in" to do just the opposite. "Joe doesn't want to ride on his father's coattails, who just happens to be Stephen King." Seriously, reviewers should either play along with the fiction and not mention it, or they should mention it and leave out the part about Hill not wanting to be judged on his father's work. (Yeah, I know your line there actually follows those rules. I'm jut venting.)
Connie Willis does rock.
And I've still got my fingers crossed for Chabon's book, with all it's hot Alaskan Jewish alternate world detective sex ...
Yowza!
