Unsafe Seats

posted by on May 13 at 20:05 PM

Meanwhile in Mississippi: A Democrat—a conservative Democrat, but still—won what had been considered a “safe” U.S. House seat for the GOP tonight. And he won it by eight freaking points. Sucks to be them. More here.

And it's a comin' fer ya, Red Bushies!

Runnin' won't help

Part of me is glad that dems are increasing thier majority, but the other part thinks it's no help if they just end up voting with the republicans when they get into office.

@2 - It's still arguably an improvement. Why? Two words: Speaker Pelosi. Even if the Democratic Congress fails us at time, don't underestimate how that affects what legislation gets voted on and which becomes toilet paper.

Here in Colorado, thanks to this and all the other Dem victories in special elections, there's talk that the long-red 4th District, home to anti gay marriage amendment sponsor Marilyn Musgrave, might finally go blue this time. It was close in 2006 until the Dem candidate kind of gave up, but the NRCC had to dump a lot of money in the race and drag the opponent's bankruptcy out in the open to ensure that. It may still stay red, but we can hope.

Hey Dan, this is actually not a comment about your post so much as it is an attempt to help you with your insomnia! I have insomnia too and it's awful, so I feel your pain. Anyway, I figured out a good way to stop it that works for me, which you've probably already tried, but what the hell, maybe you haven't... it's a sort of meditation technique called mindful meditation (the link has a really good explanation of what mindful meditation means as well as an exercise, because I think people sometimes have a preconceived notion of what meditation is and is not which gets in the way of actually being able to meditate). Just thought I'd share. Also a side benefit of this is that if you get really good at it, you can actually get yourself into a lucid dream state, and dream about whatever (or whomever!) you want, which is kind of awesome.

PS- Good news about the Dems though! :)

It will be a little bit of progress.

But yes, keep in mind, in cases like this one, we'll be looking at adding Blue Dog Democrats to the vote tally. Just about as warmongerish as any GOP folks.

It's a start. Step one, we squash GOP like redheaded Uzbek orphan.

Step two - we rip out their throats and feed them to sharks.

Pappy's Staff 1: "It's a problem of..."
Pappy's Staff 2: "Perception."
Pappy's Staff 1: "That's right."
Pappy's Staff 2: "The reason he's pullin' our pants down."
Pappy's Staff 1: "Gonna paddle our little behind."
Pappy's Staff 2: "Ain't gonna paddle it. Gonna kick it, real hard."
Pappy's Staff 1: "No, I believe he's gonna paddle it."
Pappy's Staff 2: "I don't believe that's a proper description."
Pappy's Staff 1: "Well, that's how I'd characterize it."
Pappy's Staff 2: "I believe it's more of a kickin' situation."

They had better start passing legislation that improves our lives or it will all be for nothing. And please don't let them start takingf bribes like the R's.

@ 9, I personally don't have the time for Kos, so if they repost the good stuff here I'm all for it.

The return of the Dixiecrat - yup the 40's 50's and early 60's were great.

The best part of this is the Dick trotting his pompous ass down there to drum up support. This calloused fuck is one of the main reasons it won't be good to be Republican in November.

Crooks and Liars has the video commentary from Huckabee, Russert, and Olberman. It is worth watching. I don't think Cheney's last minute efforts were a smart move for the red team.
