If the gay people looked like everybody else, the picture wouldn't be very illustrative now would it? Two guys in shirts in and ties just doesn't scream gay.
Two guys in shirts and ties who are married to each other screams gay louder than Paul Lynde fisting Liberace.
They could have just as easily used a picture from Seattle's Gay Pride parade. What stock photo would you have used?
I was gonna say, "But you people are so colorful!" but someone beat me to it.
Why should I have to explain, "Um, most actual gay people don't 'scream gay'"?
If the picture was of everyday gay people (i.e., not all gussied up in bizarre outfits), it would indeed be "very illustrative" ... of everyday gay people!
OK, that was a waste of time, wasn't it. I'm gonna go now.
wait a minute...there are times when gay people aren't in drag and/or shirtless? I'm confused...
The SGN strikes again.
Sadly, most Americans do, in fact, believe that "gay marriage" means they will be forced to clap out a samba beat while shirtless dudes waving feather boas sashay down the aisle of their Baptist church.
I'm really disappointed to see Rudd taking this position. Australia is ready for a clean sweep after the brain-dead Howard administration. But he's caved. Ugh.

Best Country Name, EVER!
I can't stand faggots.

Fag Pride Everywhere, all the time
OK, now's the time for someone to post that photo of Dan doing his Carmen Miranda impersonation.
If teh gays don't want big, flaming pictures of gay pride parades used to illustrate gay issues, then...I don't know...don't have big, flaming gay pride parades to promote gay issues.
Dan,
If you think Uraguay having gay marriage is DEADLY SERIOUS and not cause for celebration, you need to loosen the fuck up.
The post was written with my tongue in my cheek, chillpill. Gay papers are usually the venues where people freak out about serious stories being illo'd with pictures of shirtless dudes and drag queens at pride parades....
@10 -- yes, I know. But, oddly enough, I'm a better advocate for gay marriage than most people, even gay people.
Riz: congratulations, and I hope you have a wonderful party.
"Dorothy Screws "witnessed her only son, U.S. Army Pvt. Tommie Edward Jones, commit suicide right before her eyes six weeks ago in Colorado.
One thing Screws and her family did not know until after her son’s death — which occurred March 25 at Fort Carson, Colo. — was that Jones, 27, had Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) from when he fought in Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2007"
But war is good for children. Dan Savage told us that in his pro-war October 2002 article which I can't name here because the SLOG spam filter will block this post. Funny huh? SLOG uses a spam filter to block references to a pro-war article by Dan Savage.
AFP is Agence France-Presse, Not Associated Foreign Press. Sorry I'm such a geek....
Just like how certain members of the gay media always describe moms and dads as passed out drunk child abusers, eh?
i'm thinking suits, ties (skirts, pumps and makeup for the dyke ladies) would be a great idea for the next gay-themed parade. just to fuck with us all...mix it up. and bring the kids.

“War may be bad for children and other living things, but there are times when peace is worse for children and other living things, and this is one of those times.”
“In the meantime, invading and rebuilding Iraq will not only free the Iraqi people, it will also make the Saudis aware of the consequences they face if they continue to oppress their own people while exporting terrorism and terrorists. The War on Iraq will make it clear to our friends and enemies in the Middle East (and elsewhere) that we mean business: Free your people, reform your societies, liberalize, and democratize… or we’re going to come over there, remove you from power, free your people, and reform your societies for ourselves."
I think you should start using photos of snake-handlers to illustrate every story about Chrsitianity or Christians!
It would be kind of hard for Sydney to be in the A.C.T., since that is virtually the exact same thing as the city of Canberra ....
But they do have nice parrots in Sydney, and some cool dive bars.
oh for crying out loud; will someone light a fire under someone's ass at the Justice Department to get Dan's War Crimes Trial moved up!!! Maybe that way, "make my day" will finally shut the fuck up...
Dude, MSM wants itself some cock. End of story.
It's a good thing Dan's Stranger editorials supporting Gen. Pinochet are on microfilm instead of computer--otherwise he'd never hear the end of it!
The "parrots" of Sydney are not parrots but cockatoos. And they are major pests -- but, ironically, protected, as they are endangered in their natural habitat, which has been mostly destroyed, causing them to seek refuge in cities (and on cropland).
Far from being "nice", they are aggressive birds and can literally tear people's houses apart board by board.
Cockatoos are in fact a type of parrot, and while numerous (and yes, destructive), are certainly not the only parrots found in Sydney.

Yes, but they're not what people mean when they say "parrot"; they say "cockatoo". They're not true parrots. And they're by far the most likely, in fact the ONLY likely, parrot seen in the city by tourists. I'll bet you dollars to doughnuts that what Will saw.
Dan, if you are ever going to hit that 20% mark you are going to have to seriously step up the recruitment efforts.
I mean, sure, I get cruised sometimes, but I don't think I have even heard from my official recruiter. That's just weak. When I was in high school, the Army recruiter called like once a day. You gays are totally falling down on the job.
