It's weird how we are. Mountain biking and clearing brush don't make bad visuals for our "wartime president" but golf does. Lots and lots of middle class (meathead) men like golf though. I think the problem is that it gives the appearance that you have all day to while away strolling from one tee to the next. While the concentrated energy of the bike or the landscaping don't make you look like you're pissing away time.

But mostly @2 nailed it. Not going to repeat Poppy's mistake.

All this is needless and fermented Bush bashing. Bush was talking about PR and image in relation to golf. It's not that he feels that giving up golf helps him atone for anything. If you recall from history, Eisenhower got bad press for all the golf he played and every golf-loving president since has been haunted by that (except Bill Clinton, perhaps).

Since it doesn't look like impeachment is going to happen I wonder what will happen to Bush on January 21, 2009? He should not be allowed to simply go to his ranch in Texas and write a book and go on the lecture circuit like other ex-presidents (not that he can write, but you get my point). Too many of his ex-cronies (Rumsfeld and Gonzales, for example) offered their resignations when they got in trouble, slipped out of the spotlight and are now living quiet lives in obscurity without ever truly answering for what they did. Yes, his legacy will suck to future generations. He will make Nixon look like Lincoln. But will he ever see the inside of a jail cell as he should? I hope a year from now the next president and congress makes sure he does.
