SEIU is the only union who does anything worthwhile these days.

Janitors will always have bargaining power because rich people don't like to clean their own shit. And you can't outsource it to China.

"SEIU is the only union who does anything worthwhile these days."

I beg to differ. My union got us a 12% increase in this latest contract, retroactive to 2006.

I never thought I'd be in a union, but boy am I glad I am.

Is a group from the Ross Dress for Less marching? I work for that company and god have they been abusing their employees, various illegal actions by managers, paying minimum wage to start for excessive work...I protest and get cut down. WE NEED UNION

We already knew this about you, Charles.

But I'm sure the uninitiated will benefit from seeing you spell it out here.

how ironic this post is: they get paid under their value for doing legitimate work, you get paid WAY over your value for....well, for what you do.

@7, that's not quite accurate. I think he likes hips, too.

Oh, and death stars.

Hooray for unions! Yes, it can't be outsourced. But 3rd world labor can always be brought in to do the work, or drive wages down in general. In theory. Just sayin'. Could happen someday.

I love little baby ducks, old pick-up trucks, slow-moving trains, and rain.

I love little country streams, sleep without dreams, sunday school in may and hay.

I love leaves in the wind, pictures of my friends, birds in the world, and squirrels.

I love coffee in a cup, little fuzzy pups, bourbon in a glass, and grass and i love you too.

I love honest open smiles, kisses from a child, tomatoes on the vine, and onions.

I love winners when they cry, losers when they try, music when it's good, and life.

And I love you too.

You like European thought so much? Take a look at the newest poster from the Swiss People's Party (SVP) that is plastered all around town here: http://diepresse.com/home/politik/aussenpolitik/380049/index.do
The text reads: YES to the naturalization-initiative.
These nutcases won the largest percentage of the vote in 2007 with their famous "Black sheep" poster campaign. http://www.flickr.com/photos/lutfy/1339641587/

I just hope no big blonde union "brothers" show up in SUVs to run over the marchers because they might look different from them. And no, I don't feel like letting it go.

Imagine a world in which the Stranger wrote about economic justice issues with the passion it writes about environmental sustainability.

Is the staff at The Stranger represented by a union? I guess such a decision would belong to a vote by the staff itself although the owners could have an opinion.
