Sounds like keystone cops over there.

NONE of the officers there said that the gun was the suspect's. I was right next to the officer during the altercation, and will say that the use of force was appropriate for the suspect who was actively resisting.

#6: Yes, but will you hate them when you have to call them after your house has been broken into or when they arrive on the scene after you've had a car accident or have been assaulted? Or when they arrest someone running around with a gun in a public center? Lots of cops suck, but so do dumb generalizations.

I was like totally there bro! And like 557 cops appeared out of no where! They were like super heros or villians and they totally attacked this buddy of mine! Yeah, us to go WAY back! I like did his sister who is super super hot!

But yeah, the cops were like totally out of control and like freaked out on the guy. It was so sad, a group of 3452 students gathered in a vigil like thing to wish the victim good blessings and cool stuff like that. I was like totally THERE man!!!

I am sure all these SCCC kids would be chanting "let him go" when he decides to come back and unload his gun.

There were a bunch of officers there before the incident even happened. As I was spacing out in the cafeteria, I noticed there were cops and security everywhere, including a guy on the upper level that was making those hand gestures that you only see on crime shows. It all went down just before 11:00 and it was the sudden shouting that caught my attention. From what I could see, there were two cops on top of the guy and some one was yelling either "let me go" or "let him go". That's about when the crowd of students hoarded the scene. At some point, a bunch of people started chanting "let him go" and shortly thereafter another couple of cops whisked by me from behind and, well, that was about it. The drama was met with a swift end and the hoards of students wandered away.

And that's the end of that chapter.

Oh come on, as many of you are talking out your asses as the surrounding kids in the video.

Everyone was in the right, except for verifying if the person tackled was the subject who'd made the initial threats.
If this just wasn't covered well in this Slog entry and the kid was the one, then right on, bravo, everyone did what they were supposed to and SCCC got their righteous kick for the week. If not, then it's a minor example of police force, and SCCC still got their kick.

If anyone knows the kids in the video, or if you were/are one- think about coming to the DNC protest in August and wailing against the Active Denial System. That'll be sure to earn you come bad-ass righteous activist cred among your buddies, and you'll actually be doing something with a little more impact.

Yes I will.
I was hit while riding a bicycle by a 18 year old shitbird who then proceeded to get out of his car and assault me and another cyclist. He jumped back in his car and we diligently noted the license number and called the police. Evidently Officer Franklin either had little sympathy for cyclists or didn't like the looks of us, because he was COMPLETELY unhelpful. When I went down to the police station to follow-up the detectives were COMPLETELY unhelpful as well.

The police aren't there for us. If you aren't rich, and especially if you are different looking (industrial/punk/whatever), gay, or a minority the police aren't there for us.

So yes, despite having a close friend of the family who was a cop and a cousin who is a cop I can quite comfortably HATE police as a monlithic block of people and am quite comfortable generalizing about them. Especially since they have a 'culture' and it SUCKS, BAD.

K X One is the prime example of why the cops lose no matter what happens;

Cops didn't help me when I needed it.
Cops didn't help those people when they needed it.
Cops don't enforce laws.
Cops enforce laws i disagree with.
Cops should spend their doing other things.
Cops aren't spending enough time doing this thing.
Cops go out of their way to harass some people.
Cops are never around when some people get harassed.

How does a cop do their job when it'll just piss someone off in the end?

Come to the UNITY FAIR at Seattle Central Community tomorrow. We will discuss everything that happened. There is still a lot of distorted information. There will be a representative from SCCC Administration that will address the incident. Also some students will speak about the ongoing problems with police brutality. The initial issue with the student that was arrested supposedly was based on he was sexually harassing female students and administration was going to suspend him from school. These are all rumors. We still need to find out what really happened.

UNITY FAIR May 29th @ Seattle Central C.C.
performances by One Be Lo, Macklemore, Zumbi of Zion I, & Geologic of Blue Scholars.
Event kicks off at 10am.

The only thing that the SCCC student body does is whine about problems they have no intent of applying themselves to fix.

Washington is not a stop-and-identify state. All ID checks are considered involuntary searches and require the same justification as a Terry stop.

But even if Washington were a stop-and-identify state, the student would not be required to present an ID if he was willing to just state his name as was established by the Supreme Court in Hiibel v. Sixth Judicial District Court of Nevada.

The Seattle police were wrong in this arrest and they are going to lose the subsequent unlawful arrest lawsuit.

Posted by bz-ishi | May 28, 2008 5:39 PM

They were arresting him for making the initial threats and were merely attempting to confirm his identity beforehand, which they had every right to do. The ISO idiots who chanted "let him go" and the moron who thinks an unlawful arrest lawsuit is realistic should try and remember the cops were there to do a job and they did it well. The original slog entry is also unbelievably incorrect. The kid got what he deserved.

Here's the email that all SCCC students received from the SCCC president:

Wednesday, May 28, 2008

6:00 p.m.

FROM: President Mildred W. Ollée

TO: Student Body

I want to inform you about an incident that took place Wednesday morning involving a Seattle Central student and members of the Seattle Central campus security force and the Seattle Police Department. I know it was a frightening incident for the many students and college personnel who witnessed it firsthand. I want you to understand the facts that triggered this event.

On Friday, the student in question made verbal remarks threatening mass violence on campus. His remarks were reported to our campus security department on Tuesday morning. It is our policy to take any threat of violence very seriously. Such threats are against school policy. In light of incidents of campus violence that have occurred in our nation over the last several years, we must take every possible precaution to keep our campus and students safe.

In cases where the risk of potential violence exists, it is our policy to hand-deliver a letter to a student. When questioned, the student provided a false name and attempted to flee.

Because of the serious nature of his threat, SPD had no choice but to intervene. In the physical altercation that ensued, a handgun belonging to one of the SPD officers fell onto the ground but was quickly recovered. The student did not have a gun but did possess an unlawful knife.

I want to thank our campus security personnel and the Seattle Police Department for their prompt, professional response to this serious threat of violence. I am satisfied that we took appropriate steps that were reasonable to protect the student body and our campus.

I want to assure each of you that we are committed to providing a safe environment for you to study and learn. Please know that we will always endeavor to respond quickly to any threat of violence. This unfortunate incident will not deter us from our important mission.

So the guy threatened to go to school, shoot everyone. Police go, he resists, either takes gun or gun falls to ground. Fights with officers. Gets arrested. Whats the issue?

P.S. Let him GO! hehe wow

What exactly were the threats this guy made? like ... he was gonna kick someone's ass? or a bunch of asses? or shoot one person's ass? or a bunch of asses?

I'd like to see the part between when he was asked to show his papers and refused, as he has every right to do, and when he was tackled.

And like Sam, I'm curious about the nature of his alleged threats.

I understand that a school has to take threats of mass violence seriously, but they need to do it within the bounds of the law. And those police need to be more careful with their guns. If this young man had reached for the gun the cop dropped, or even looked like he was reaching for it, he'd probably be dead now.

@41

I would like to hear about what specific threat he allegedly made and to whom it was allegedly made to.

It seems a bit suspicious to me that they're just saying that he made threats but not discussing what threats were specifically made and in what context like they do in other such cases.

Police brutality is bad.

So are school shootings, which have been on the upswing in recent years.

The cops appear to be doing their best, given the information from school authorities and the student's obvious resistance.

Being a cop is one of the most difficult jobs. Let's at least give these guys the benefit of the doubt.

His only problem was he forgot to wink after saying his "threats". If you wink, does that negate the seriousness of the threat? FYI, I just got a North Seattle Community College alert stating yet another threat has been made but this time at NSCC and that student has been detained. I love this police state we live in. Hey, I have an idea, lets blame the leftists and maybe eradicate them in little camps. Then we'll really be free! yay!!!!! I love the U.S.A.!
