Cristina Garcia is reading at the Elliott Bay Book Company from A Handbook To Luck, a novel. I had a girlfriend who loved Cristina Garcia. Things ended badly with that girlfriend, and that's why I've never read Cristina Garcia. She could be a lovely author for all I know, and I should totally get over it. I have a similar situation with Gretl Ehrlich. Also, it's Free Comic Book Day. If you go to pretty much any comic book shop, you should be able to get free comic books. (But we disagree over our feelings about Spiderman.;) It would be nice if it were a celebration of the art-form, but just about every year I've gone, the free comics they've given out are almost always pure crap.

10-page teasers designed to make you want to buy the rest of the 14- books in the series. Reissuing comics that came out sometimes up to 6 months ago. (An eternity in comics time.) I adore comics, but I've always felt free-comic day always comes up lacking.
