I'm just glad we may soon have HRC to get rid of the gas tax. I would hate for McCain to be the only one to offer me help filling up the SUV.

The gas tax proposal is a freaking joke. Even the NYTimes Paul Krugman, who supports Clinton, calls the gas tax proposal laughable

Everything Horsey draws looks gross. He draws women like a misogynist. He draws blacks like a racist. He draws humans like a misanthrope. Whatever it is, looking at it makes you want to gouge your eyes out rather than gaze on anything ever. It would be a huge improvement to replace Horsey with that guy who draws for The Onion.

so i think we can all pretty much agree that the mainstream media is sexist, racist, reactionary, sensationalist, etc etc. so, why is it that the stranger regurgitates this nonsense instead of ignoring it and using its voice to address things in a more positive, constructive light? why not use your powers for good?

Erica, are you somehow trying to imply that cheap shots in politics are only directed at women? I think this cartoon perfectly symbolizes that women are on just as much an equal target for ridicule as men.

@8, I didn't miss a thing. Anything goes in politics and men have been hit too on the same lines. If they haven't throughout history, it's only because they're weren't many women writers in news.

isn't the "history of misogyny" cartoon itself a much better example of horsey's hypocrisy? i mean the basic message is that "uppity women" today are lucky they're not being stoned or set on fire, so they shouldn't complain. granted, this one has a pair of boobies on it, but the general message is that hillary is a lying sack of shit, and there's nothing misogynistic about that.

the general message is that hillary is a lying sack of shit, and there's nothing misogynistic about that.

Didn't you get the memo, brandon? ALL criticism or mockery of Hillary is misogynistic. That's why, for example, it pains ECB so to acknowledge the idiocy of the gas tax holiday plan, and why she can't criticize it without several paragraphs of "B-b-b-b-but Obama!"

ecb - please show us the horsey cartoons of obama with a boom box, the one that shows him hot wiring a car (even though he has the keys in his hands), how about leaning against the wall outside the oval office with baggies in his pockets, or making a brush off the shoulder move at the state of the union speech. did i miss any of those classics horsey did?

Our Overmasters from Persei 6 have declared a new edict.

In the interest of "fairness", from now on, no one is to distinguish differences between the sexes, (other than making distinctions between genitalia in a strictly medical fashion) in any and all public conveyences, including - but not limited to - print media, wireless and broadcast media, academia, government, religion, etc.

Anyone guilty of violating this new and enlightened law will be judged to be a misogynist and anti vagina and shall be executed immediately.

All those cartoons look dead-on accurate to me. Is ECB seriously arguing that Horsey's cartoons are harder on female public figures than on male public figures? Or is any cartoon that's hard on a (non-Republican) female public figure a no-no in ECB's book?

McG, you miserable hack. If you'd done a Google image search of "david horsey obama" the first thing you'd hit is a cartoon where two white men discuss Barack Obama as a prize athlete, or piece of fine horseflesh, and call him "articulate" (i.e. capable of speaking words and sentences).

As if Obama were even relevant to this topic. Only a miserable hack would try to drag him into it. You are NOT ALLOWED to vote for him in the general. You damn well better not use your hackery and slime spewage on his behalf after we nominate him. Hillary Clinton is the only one who desires your services.

Thanks for the links to the cartoons. They are all pretty funny. I'm confused though. Is Hillary proud, or not proud, of having the testicular fortitude her supporters assert and can she beat up all the pansy boys. Plus, can she or can't she take the heat. I thought she liked the kitchen. Really. Supporters of the Clinton's, whose argument boils down to she can play dirtier than anyone else, really need to get a grip on themselves.

Oh elenchos - go to the PI and do a search on Obama in the Horsey cartoons and you'll find only positive images. The one you refer to is a put down of people that think Obama should wait to run. It is pro Obama.

Posted by brandon | May 1, 2008 7:21 PM

30 - well since they have Hillary nut crackers on the market maybe "crunch" qualifies.

29 - I forgot that comparing blacks to jesus is a standard racist put down. In Seattle that cartoon is pro Obama - in the Midwest or South maybe not.

@31 I live in Savannah GA and unfortunately I've heard many racist put downs but never one where blacks are compared to Jesus and I'm not sure how that would work.

The irony here is that the "right wing media" is indeed appauling and yet its a Clinton aide that's making use of it to run down Obama.

@31,

It's sarcastic, numbskull. Saying that Obama walks on water is on a par with saying all his supporters are drinking Kool Aid. Obama walks on water == his supporters believe he's the second coming. Translation: they're wrong, he's just another politician, probably worse.

It's pathetic that I have to explain this to a Hillary supporter considering that you guys have been using this shit against Obama for several months.

check out Obama's electoral vote strategy map

http://theelectoralmap.com/2008/04/30/obamas-strange-electoral-map/#comments

he counts Texas as in play. He also claims to put Pa. in play.

WTF?

Texas, no fucking way, he must be eating those mushrooms you get down in Arizona.

And the RCP rolling averages consistently show in a head to head he does 5.2 points worse than HRC. So his claim to be more electable in Pa. is....false.

He ignores FL and OH.

Obama correctly claims to do better in the cluster of states that aren't totally republican, yet have very few black people in them, ie, MN WI IA ND. That's it.
That's what his big advantage boils down to. Most of those voted, of course, before bittergate, Wright, etc.

I'd say this map showing TX and NC as in play and showing he has some kind of advantage in PA. is at best delusional and at worse false.

As in not backed up by data.

Suzie, the last SurveyUSA poll done for the general had McCain up by only one against Obama. CNN gives him a larger margin (8) but has McCain losing to Obama AND Clinton if there's a third party candidate. McCain's weak enough that even Clinton could make a play or at least force him to play defense.

So, it's only "strange" if you haven't been paying attention to the data and have already given up competing in most states in the country.

50 state strategy FTW.

Hey, McG, did you ever get a chance to review the Four State Pledge Clinton signed after you claimed it didn't exist? I'm curious to hear your spin of how participating in an election doesn't violate her pledge not to participate in an election.

Welcome fellow Obama supporters!

(as in he's the likely nominee and we hope to get him elected, duh).

Latest early morning polls show he continues to slide down in electability.
Based on realclear politics averages of several polls the last few days:

In the primary in NC he's down to single digits, not that the D's will get NC anyway.

In IN Clinton is ahead by 6, a huge change from a week ago when she was down about 3.

The point isn't D's win IN in the Fall. The point is this Wright stuff has defeined Obama and is a huge negative he will not be able to shake off.

In General Election head to heads HRC does better than Obama by just over 2 points. Another shift from a week ago.

In PA she does better than him by over 5 points, very steday over the last weeks.

In Ohio he's doing even worse than before, the spread is now 8.8 points with Obama LOSING and Clinton WINNING against McCain.

Holy shit. That's almost putting Ohio totally out of reach. For Obama.

In Florida the spread remains about 11 (it's 10.7) meaning:

totally hopeless for Obama.

Obama continues to do better in WI and doubtless in MN IA etc.

Bottom line:

he's looking unelectable in the Fall.

You do realize that after the convention the general election campaign lasts only two months?

So that images and definitions of hte candidates being formed now are what they acarry with them into the fall?

OK so what do we do?

1. Offer HRC VP. After the comeback she's demonstating she's fucking earned it. She has the support of about half the voters who voted about half the party, etc. Unity, unity blah blah blah blah. If you can't even unify your own party what's this unity horseshit really about anyway?

2. Obama: START ACTING PRESIDENTIAL:
a. seat FL and MI denying voting rights looks slimy.
b. start yoru massive politics-changing voter reg. drives NOW in key states like CO NM VA OH FL. Act like you are fucking TRYING to win OH PA FL at least.
c. MORE substance on economy. Stop saying "that gas tax thing is only worth $30" makes it look like you don't get it people care about $30. Come up with something yourself.
d. Stop being a pussy on the Rev. Wright thing you looked way too passive. Even now you say things like the real kicker that forced you to respond was that he said something bad about you. That looked really weak, like "I loved this man for 20 years while he preached his anti American shit but when he said I was just a politician that was too much for me!" Make a big speech saying how we do want to be post racial but getting there means decrying bullshit on all sides equally and this talk of usa govt. inventing HIV was bullshit the talk of blaming crime rates on 17-19th slavery is bullshit the etc. etc. in teh Bill Cosby vein...and the denial of institutional racism is bullshit too that's why we need something to address the legacy of slavery such as
(a) class based affiramtive action
(b) voting rights for ex drug felons, help to get photo id for anyone in a state requiring photo id to vote, help getting your name back on the voter rolls when wrongly taken off like the GOP did in FL, voting repn. for DC, more college grants for every low income person (point out for centuries blacks couldn't partake of freebies handed out by the usa govt) or something other than the vague calls for reconciliation that are not backed by any action steps.

(c) similarly on changing politics (start your national movement to end all pac donations to anyone anywhere) foreign policy (tell us you will capture and kill OBL AND start an international moslem peacekeeping force and make the fucking saudis and algeria and turkey and pakistan pay for it so THEY can go be policemen in Iraw, whatever).

Right now he's just being reactive, doing nothing and this is the way John Kerry LOST the election. He dind't control or contain this Rev. Wright thing at all. Not acting like a winner.

what if Wright now says "oh in fact he ws in the pews when I said god damn america and I saw him clapping"?

He'd be toast.

The "don't change the plan" approach is enough for him to coast to the nomination, but not to win in the fall.

Suzie, I have to once again point out that Obama announced a 50 state reg drive last week.

So, if you criticize or don't support Hillary, you're a misogynist and if you criticize or don't support Obama, you're a racist.

The dumbassery of the Left is going to allow McCain to win.
