I am inclined to think this was a murder staged as a suicide. That woman had a lot of dirt on a lot of very powerful people.

SLOG needs a soundtrack. Posts like this should be accompanied by apporpriately ominous music. It does have all the earmarks of something more sinister than a mere suicide, if she had something on McCain the whole leadership of the RNC could be suspects.

As my overexcited temporary re-posting of this story hinted, I'm with Trouble at 3.

From the Washington Post: "Palfrey, 52, was free while awaiting sentencing June 25 on federal racketeering charges."

The post-conviction/pre-sentencing bargaining phase might be when whatever she knows would be most useful, right? Or do I just have chronic Law & Order damage?

Two top level Red Bushies were kicked to the curb - first the GAO contracts head (fraud) and then the Justice fraud person. (source: Washington Post, now sod off, Fnarf)

Chances are they're fall guys for Cheney and other high levels being covered up, but we have 260 days and a wakeup before we can avoid GWB Pardons of their Treason and Malfeance.

yeah, i would expect a real-for-true suicide to have been preceded by a full list of clients sent off to some reputable media--a last and lasting "fuck you" to the feds. why would she just off herself without that small satisfaction first?

Ten bucks says they offed her. She had no reason to kill herself. There were plenty of procedural problems with the trial, especially with her not being allowed to call witnesses like Vitter to account for what they paid for.

My guess is she threatened to publish all the gory details if somebody didn't step up. Too bad somebody did, with a gun in their hand.

She supposedly told friends she would kill herself rather than go to prison. Why not prosecute the johns? Men still hold all the cards. It sucks.
