Police Investigating Murder in View Ridge

posted by on May 22 at 13:14 PM

I’m a little late posting this, but I was out at the crime scene earlier:

Early this morning, just after 6am, Seattle Police responded to a call about a body in an alleyway on NE 68th St between 50th and 51st Ave.

Police say they found a Latino male in his late 20s to early 30s, who had been the victim of “homicidal violence.” Police have not yet identified the man and still don’t know whether the victim was stabbed or shot, or even if the man was killed at the scene.

Neighbors on 50th say they didn’t hear anything strange last night.

I’ll update with more info as it becomes available.

Latinos in View Ridge? That would be a crime.

I live near the Starbucks up there and to be honest, crime up in that part of town is SUPER rare. Except for the nasty hot sex I pretend to have in my bedroom: and THAT is downright CRIMINAL!!

Have the cops questioned Billy Ray Cyrus' son?

Oh god, I work at a restaurant up there and there are a lot of latinos who work in the kitchen. I hope they are all alright. :(

I always get Blue Ridge and View Ridge mixed up.

I wonder if there is a pattern of some sort here. There was another Latino who died of "homicidal violence" in Olympia this week.

I sure hope this is a freak occurance because I live a block down from where this happened. Wish we had more info....

Jonah--do you happen to have any updates here? I live in THE alley...and yes, did see the body all morning from my home and dodged the local news reporters to process what happened. Yes, the neighborhood is very hush-hush and I can't help but want to know more about the victim, how on earth he got to this alley (the alley itself isn't the mystery, but VR is more a destination than a "just-passing-through"). Do you have theories?

I live right down the street and we have been trying to come up with theories on how someone could have ended up in this alley too. View Ridge isn't on the way to anyplace I can think of. Why would they choose this alley? Could the victim have been someone who was working on the new construction on the corner?

Ah, such a good point and one we've thought of, too (the construction site. There are always trucks coming and going even late at night. Do post something if you find anything out, will you?

I will post if I find anything out. In about a week, we are going to ask a friend of ours who is a police officer if he can dig around and give us any info....

Could this be Latino gang related? Is it common to do a gang slaying this way (pull down the pants, stab, dump)?

Hmmm...I can't help but think the same thing--how disrespectful, no? At least they have identified the boy (only 18) (but from Bellevue!?). I'm curious to hear of any suspects and a possible scenario. I was relieved to see a memorial put at the site--I suspect it was mostly family but some neighbors.

What we have heard is that he came to the US, to live with his uncle. He was attending Overlake HS and had saved up $1000.00 to send home. This is possibly the reason he was killed. So sad. I feel so sad for his family who thought he was coming here for a better life...

Ugh. Do we know yet if that's all true and/or where he came from? Oh, that's so sad....any ideas yet on how it all happened?

We DO NOT know this is true, and honestly the more I think about it, the less I believe that story. I would have to imagine that this kid was into something badwith some bad people. My first guess would be a drug deal. I think there is much much more to this story. However, that is the story his friends from Overlake told.

Ah, too funny--that's exactly my line of thought, too. How strange to try and unravel the who, what, when, where of this oddity. I'll keep my eye out and ears open and post anything I hear. Thank you SO much for being a part of this discussion with me!

I will do the same! I appreciate the discussion too!

He was only 18 years old he attended to Interlake High School at Bellevue he studied and worked at the same time. Many people say that he was kill because of his money he just cash his check out and he was carrying 1000 dollars that's probably one reason this happen he was going to send that money to his family in Mexico. He came two months ago he was really calm and friendly he was just getting used to the new culture. Rip Ivan Hernandez-Vazquez. We will miss him many friends and family are sad.

I just received an email explaining this story, and it is heartbreaking. I hope that the guilty are found and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. I'm so sorry for his family and friends.
