If Obama weren't black the press would not be investigating his church. What church does McCain go to, and if he doesn't go to a church, why not.

What a half-assed apology, typical of yet another wannabe religious political figure.
He regrets his choice of words, rather than the meaning of the words. Thus, it becomes a seemingly minor matter regarding his choice of words and these words resultant meaning which are inconsistent with Obama's life and message rather than Pfleger's intended message, which is not referred to or regretted.

By finishing with the requisite "I'm sorry if they" (the words, not himself) "offended Senator Clinton", he avoids owning the intention and apologizing to Clinton and "anyone else who saw them". By using this end tag of "anyone else who saw them" he
further minimizes his ownership of the words by limiting his partial apology someone he doesn't like (clinton) and to people who might have seen the words rather than read or heard the words.

However, in doing so he obliquely refers to the some of the most damaging aspects of his speech, which are the visible and contextual components of his performance. This performance is akin to a white minstrel show whereupon a white actor wearing a collar cavorts about like a funny white person in drag for an approving black audience. Owww. With friends like this... No wonder Obama is distancing himself from this loose cannon church.
