McDermott Endorses Obama

posted by on May 15 at 9:58 AM

The last undeclared superdelegate in our Congressional delegation makes his preference known:

I am proud to endorse Barack Obama today, because I believe he will bring us together to achieve the kind of change we need in this country moving forward.

As Democrats, we are fortunate to have two very talented public servants running to be the nominee of our party, and I have great respect for Senator Clinton. But I believe now is the time to unite behind Barack Obama so we can be in the strongest place possible to win in November.

Barack Obama has chosen to spend his career speaking out for those who need a voice and reaching across the aisle to bring change that matters in the lives of working families. I am confident that as president, Barack Obama will end the war in Iraq and bring our sons and daughters home, he will make universal health care a reality and he will restore our moral standing in the world.

Barack Obama won the race in my home state by an overwhelming margin and I am thankful that so many new voters have become engaged because of the kind of campaign he has run, and I am happy to support him today.

with the time lag since wa has voted overwhemingly for obama, i feel like this support doesn't have the punch it could have had quite a while ago. the cache that supers can gather by supporting early is going away now.

@2 Jiberish is absolutely correct.

Way to go Jim....err nevermind, you don't matter now anyway.

But you did serious damage to your reputation deciding to wait.

Nothing is ever good enough for some of you weenies, is it?

Just the slightest bit of research would have revealed that the Clntons raised a lot of money for Jim's legal defense fund. They were there for Jim when Jim needed them, which is entirely praiseworthy.

So Jim couldn't exactly throw them under the bus before this race had been decided, could he?

Jim's declaration comes before the convention, and it helps wrap things up before then. So please quit the nitpicking and the whining.

Ivan @4
Oh. He waited because he owed the Clintons a favor he. What a statesman!

@5 is right. Loyalty, mutual support, "dancing with who brought you," all that will have absolutely no place in the administration of President Barack Obama and Vice President Bill Richardson. And the fact that the Clintons helpe dother Democrats for years and years and years and years ois absolutely shameful. We condemn helping other Democrats in time of need!

Also the idea that McDermott lacks balls because he waited till the race is over is yet another bit of malicious stereotyping by the evil Clinton campaign. Obviously, like all the other undecided superdelegates, who are the same Democrats who can't cut off funds in Congress to stop the war, McDermott is a profile in courage with his brave decision to wait till Obama has it sewn up.

We need more brave, strong Democrats just like him-- people who know how to lead, not just follow.

About time, cause this Saturday morning at NSCC the 7th CD was going to consider who our Dem candidate (single) was for the November election ...

Now for Gore to weigh in.

I think he was holding out for Barack to promise him a chocolate milkshake and a pony.
