"lily-white Seattle"?
Have you been south of the International District lately? Or ever?

I have to agree with @1.

You guys really need to leave the Hill sometimes.

And I don't just mean West Seattle, I mean Rainier Valley, and lots of other places that are Seattle.

Just to throw a little data on the subject.. Seattle is over 70% white according to the 2000 census.

By comparison:
San Francisco: 49%
Denver: 65%
Dallas: 50%
Portland, OR: 77%
Portland, ME: 91%
Baltimore (go Os, hon!): 31%
New York City: 44%
Oklahoma City: 68%

Overall U.S. white population: 73.9%

Here's a nice map of whiteness by congressional district.

When a friend moved to Seattle in the '80s, complaining about the local low-riding culture was ALL he EVER talked about. Since he wasn't the most reliable source, I figured he was being insane, as always. Guess not. I missed it by the time I moved there, apparently.

"Not having a lowrider doesn't not make you a lowrider. Not having a lowrider makes you a lowrider. It comes from inside, man."

@11 Ditto.
