Genius.
You and Mr. Poe should have a threesome with this dude.
I am now 5:37 minutes closer to the weekend.
What a lovely man. His remarks are very apropos. It's the sort of thing that makes you realize you're not alone.
Sounds a lot like Hitchens, IE awesome.
Great stuff! I can't believe I've never heard of him before. Where's he been hiding?
Dan, you'll really love Pat's take on Islam. He's a strong critique of Europe's accommodation of Islam. Course, he hates all religion, so no surprise there.
Awesome.
That's awesome.
I have a new guru.
Pat Condell is my hero. I could while away countless hours listening to him rant.
I'm going to send this to every conservative fuck I know, just to make their heads explode. And in this town, that is a LOT of fucks.
You can get a DVD full of Pat: http://richarddawkins.net/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=58
@6 - Like Higgins except not an arrogant pug.
Here's a man that knows what he's talking about. He's fantastic. Did you notice he NEVER used the word "uh" once! Are Americans ready to fight against the American-Taliban? I'm thinking most Americans don't really care.
If accurate, this fella's wiki page paints him as more irreverent even than Mudede, though less elegant.
I have a new hero. Thank you Slog.
That was awesome! I couldn't agree more.
My coworker told me this will offend the "religous sensibility" of some people.
I told her that that term is an oxymoron.
I love this guy. You can see all his videos on liveleak if not on the dawkins site.
Brilliant. I watched it twice and dude’s right about everything except one crucial point: religious fanaticism, war, violence, corruption, incompetence, open hypocrisy and stupidity are what our country stands for now. That’s been the case for decades and it won’t be changing anytime soon. The majority of our sub-moronic population believes that we can “help” people by shooting, torturing and bombing them for fuck’s sake.
Sadly, the truth is that everything we were taught that our country stood for—what it meant to be American—was all just lies and propaganda.
Sounds cynical, I know. But cynics are really just broken-hearted idealists.
"a ten-gallon hat on a half-pint head"
Love it!
I will spend part of my weekend viewing his other videos and sending the link far and wide. Just think no matter how much Xtian or Islamic fundies hate this they are totally powerless to do one thing to stop these videos from being seen by potentially millions of young minds. Seems if their imaginary sky god existed he would smite it all away. Nothing fails like prayer.
Okay, he's pretty funny (and right, of course), but he's preaching to a pre-selected choir.
Not that Mr. Condell isn't a great and much-needed voice, but I'll be more excited when a cynical, skeptical talking head is less aroused by attacking religion (I fail to see what the point of it is - religious people will not decide that rationality trumps faith - unless you get at them young) and more excited by promoting the separation of church and state. People like this guy don't win over religious people who are on the fence - they push religious people to feel better about dismissing atheists.
I'll fight you for him, Dan. I'm in love too.
@24: The "preaching to the choir" charge is widely made about outspoken atheists (e.g. Dawkins, Hitchens, Harris), but ultimately incorrect. Beyond rallying the troops, an entertaining message perks the ears of those in the middle and alerts them to a view, possibly consonant with their experience, that has been utterly absent in public discourse until recently. Bush's public Jesusicity and incompetence reinforces this message. Yes, creationist troglodites won't be listening. They will have to be addressed later once a rational majority feels safe in calling a spade a spade.
I have a new favourite person in the world. Wish there were more of this guy around, especially in certain parts of this country...
@ 26: I think you and I have very different experiences of "the majority."
The majority of people I know are, on some level, spiritual - although not religious. They're insulted by Dawkins in particular and find more in common with Christians than atheists. This has been true with a lot of different people, from mystic newagers to Christian Lites.
Additionally, I've known far too many hardcore atheists who sit around and attack religious and spiritual ideas like a bunch of 13-yr-olds in a circle jerk. That type of attitude is repulsive to anyone who has been helped by spirituality or, like me, has watched people be helped.
Yah! Welcome to the Pat Condell fan club! He is one of the raving atheists on youtube. A totally awesome-appearing guy. Rock on Pat!
Great find! More, please! Much more intelligent and rhetorically savvy than Hitchens, whose own "issues" with religion get in the way of his otherwise good arguments. (or maybe it's just the booze).
Condell's more effective because he argues in favor of intelligence coupled with political power.
Well done, Dan. Thanks.
This has been the best part of my day! Thank you Dan!
Condell doesn't upload videos very often, but their quality usually makes up for that.
Here he is as a young sexy(er) man:
wow! i think i have send this at least three times in the last month talking with friends... but it sounded way better coming from him then me..
Thanks for this, Dan. That guy is very well-spoken. And I agree with what he said. I'd love to get his opinion on Canada, my country.
Dan, did you ghost write this spiel?
I love this.
What a bunch of haters posting here. It sounds like some of you are primed for a Nazi-style purging of religious people.
If materialists are correct, maybe religion is an adaptation. In that case, can it be judged to be any worse than atheism, which can be no more than an alternative adaptation?
