Will they make their own clothes out of old drapes and force underage girls into marriage?
Considering how much of their money they gave away to rent blimps and shit, I don't think any entrepreneur/huckster will go broke pandering to Paultards. They're practically begging for a pipe dream to sink their saving into.
But I thought the plan was for all the libertarians to move to New Hampshire and take over? Is that still on?
No, it's Vermont, and it's proceeding on schedule.
I've seen lots of rammed earth construction in South America. You build a form for your wall, and then fill it with the right mixture of the right sort of earthy substances and then pound it down with a man-sized pestle. I think the word for this type of building in Spanish is Tapial, but I could be mis-remembering. I've never seen it in this country, though I imagine that it would be very problemmatic in our soupy climate. But West Texas, hey, there's no water there, and no earthquakes, right?
I don't know about media outlets, but I will bet there is a fine local newspaper similar to the Cap. Hill Times. As far as restaurants go there is sure to be a truckstop within a hundred miles, which would be a negligable drive to a West Texan.
You are white right? Because Paul don'
t like darkies. from CNN:The controversial newsletters include rants against the Israeli lobby, gays, AIDS victims and Martin Luther King Jr. -- described as a "pro-Communist philanderer." One newsletter, from June 1992, right after the LA riots, says "order was only restored in L.A. when it came time for the blacks to pick up their welfare checks."
Your ignorance is always appreciated. So what if a group of people is trying something different? I would say "Live and let live.", but this must somehow affect you in your own self-satisfied state.
You must always believe everything you read written by mean spirited idiots. Paultard... that's about even with something like describing Hillary supporters as clintontorises. Oh, and ps, You do know Obama is a muslim, right?
Pj your so full of shit. That is exactly the racists bullshit that I am talking about. Libertarians are just members of the GOP that want to smoke pot. Ron is a vile bigoted crackpot and it would make sense that his followers would start a compound in Texas.
Rammed earth is exactly what it sounds like - it was very popular during early Harrowsmith days for people seeking to build passive solar energy efficient homes of native materials.
I imagine when President Obama is elected we'll have to start arresting the Ron Paulites and putting them in concentration camps filled with rattlesnakes, mind you ...
(this, by the way, is supposed to be humor, for those not familiar with the concept)
Hey Opus, remember when Obama was screaming "GOD DAMN AMERICA!!!". Oh wait, he didn't say it? He had to have said it, or believed it, becomes someone he knew said it, right?
God, some of you are worse than neocons. You would do Hillary and Rove proud.
No, it's fucking New Hampshire. They have 8338 promises to move in five years. At this rate they will reach their goal in 2015. And if all 20,000 of them do what they said they woudl to, they'll all arrive by 2020.
They were originally supposed to move there within 2 years of getting 20,000 signatures, but they bumped it up to 5 years. And their original goal was to have those 20k signatures by 2006, not 2015.
So, no, they are not on schedule in any sense. I'm sure you were trying to help, not spin.
Please correct my ignorance. Is Paultard the incorrect term? I believe it is in common usage.
I'm not against the Free State Project. In fact, I'm a supporter. I'm willing to pay bus fare for any libertarian willing to get the fuck out of my state and go to New Hampshire. Or any place, really. How is that mean?
ps, What does an OB/GYN know that Opus doesn't? He knows what contractions are.
Opus, let me sink to your level of ad hominem attacks.
Of course Ron Paul followers are getting a Texas compound. I would be surprised if they weren't. How long until the incest/shoot-out with the feds/mass suicide?
#10 Yeah, I am pretty sure Obama did not put out a news letter saying god damm america. Ron Paul did put out a news letter, sent it to thousands, and it came back to bite him on the ass. He even said it was his newsletter, but he did not write it. That makes it so much better.
Dear Unpaid Intern,
I'm only moving to Dell City, Texas if there are packs of wild bulldogs. No bulldogs, no deal.
It's used only by people who can't come up with a civil discourse, such as useless writers like wonkette, who is one of the worst political bloggers I have had the misfortune to read. But, like any thinking person, I can choose not to read her rantings.
Not so much mean. Just....ignorant
I wish I was in the tin foil business, because there is a lot of hats going to be needed there Paulville.
Emily G.: thank you for "man-sized pestle."
Now, if only we could get all of the local Larouchies to start their own city in the middle of nowhere...
This is the other PJ. (I believe the original PJ.) Though I don't think much of Ron Paul, I agree with the other PJ that "Paultards" is about the dumbest word I've ever heard. I'm a teacher who works with kids with mental retardation, and I find it interesting that elenchos is so comfortable enough with the word "retard" to use it against Paul supporters. elenchos (almost forgot to lowercase your name) is truly a mean-spirited hypocrite of the extremist left.
Hudspeth County in West Texas is mostly desert and mountains, and contains the highest point in the state Guadalupe Peak. The real reason for Ron Paul Supporters would move there is to get water rights, which El Paso/Juarez one county over are desparaterly trying to acquire. There is the veneer of earth friendly buildings, but the real ploy is to steal the only water for many miles around and sell it back at an inflated prices, while drying up wetlands in a key migratory corridor.
PJ the First,
I changed my screen name over, as I know I am a relative newcomer to the SLOG. Thanks for the input. I'm just a Democrat with Libertarian leanings, and these shrill histrionics are the thing that drives people away from politics, allowing certain incapable people to be elected as a two term president.
Thanks, man. With no irony or sarcasm, you are a good guy for working with the kids.
@21 - well, that worked well in LA, so why not TX?
"Retarded" in the general sense means falling behind, or undeveloped, or lacking the latest adaptations. Paul fans are quite retarded in that sense. They are politically undeveloped, or retarded.
In order for me to be a hypocrite, I would first have to be someone who professed a rigid kind of "political correctness" that only exists in the minds of right wing blowhards. It's a straw man. Since I never claimed that language needs to be policed and cleansed of useful words like "tard" to supposedly spare the feelings of somebody somewhere, I'm no hypocrite. If your skin is that thin and you're reading the blogs, you're an idiot and I don't feel sorry for you.
Or have I contradicted my beliefs in some other way? Do tell.
So libertarians want to go live in mud huts in Texas and see if there dumb ass ideas actually work in practice. Seems fine with me. Better there than here.
I'll even take their evil "federal reserve notes" off their hands before they go.
Dell Computers was founded in Texas by a guy named Michael Dell.
The new compound will generate their own electricity with solar panels to run all of their electronic gadgets.
Wonder if Dell Computers is helping them out at all?
PJ, the last time I checked, Barack Obama didn't print Rev. Wright's comments under his own name in the "Barack Obama Survival Report," nor did he take credit for the comments as his own when questioned on it. In other words, it's a very poor analogy for what Ron Paul did. Especially since Ron Paul's newsletter had a habit of writing experiences in the first person that were completely specific to Ron Paul, like complaining about the flack he got in his 1988 run for president on the libertarian ticket for voting against MLK Day while in congress. It's pretty odd for an unsanctioned, completely unnamed ghostwriter to come up with such a specific anecdote, don't you think? It's also odd that not one person on Ron Paul's mailing list, including his staff and family, would give Ron Paul a heads up on what was going on in that newsletter. As well as the fact that the people who were in charge of the newsletter back then are still running his campaign to THIS VERY DAY. But yes, let's compare a newsletter that was produced under Ron Paul's name, by Ron Paul's staff, to statement's made by Obama's preacher.
I love that bit about true freedom. These folks are mad at the power company? That's why they want windmills and solar panels?
This only makes sense if you don't have to make monthly payments to a bank/moneylender/Arab guar trading co-op to pay for the MANY THOUSANDS of dollars it costs to set up a useful windmill or PV array!
Or, if you're rich and just buy this kind of device outright. And that's why (most, American) libertarians get on my nerves. They're either rich, selfish dicks, and/or they just have screwball obsessions with power & control on issues that most folks have learned to cope with.
Most people rich enough to buy a personal windmill or a decent sized PV solar array... don't bother. They might make their money back in X number of years, but they'd rather not do the maintenance/fiddling.
Or, they live in a creepy gated community that doesn't allow a red mailbox, let alone clotheslines or windmills... come to thik of it I've got my own screwball obsessions with power, control, and conformity, and hate most other gated communities, too. ; )
I say, let them set up their gated community out in W. TX, then watch them like a hawk -- I guar-on-tee, within five years, their town be crying and sucking at the Austin & federal teats for various gov't services.
