The "Clinton aides admit..." line looks like it was taken from an Obama campaign ad. I'm chalking this up to plain old incompetence, which seems to be typical for Hillary's campaign.

When you're in free fall and the Net is open to all, this is the least of your problems ...

That said, Sen McCain would just be Bush III, no matter how you slice it ...

It feels like dead-horse-beating to bash the bumbling Clinton campaign at this point, except that the horse is still somehow convinced it's alive.

This ad looks like it's made FOR FIVE YEAR OLDS. "Big stupidhead Obama wants *you* to pay for your gas. Booo! But Hillary is going to make the gas companies pay for your gas! Yey!! FREE GAS FOR EVERYONE IN SMURF VILLAGE!! YEY!" What's next Hillary, a tax rebate? How about taking all Americans out for some free ice cream?

That screen grab came from part of the commercial explaining that all Obama can do is attack Hillary on the gas tax issues because he doesn't have a plan of his own.....it's pretty clear. Put the Cool-Aid down and pay attention.

How about taking all Americans out for some free ice cream?

Now that's a campaign promise I can get behind.

Anyone know of a good explanation why moving the tax from one line of the oil industry's ledger to another will do anything at all? They already pay the gas tax with the money we give them at the pump they'll pay this new tax with the money we give them at the pump. What am I missing?

Daniel @ 9: There is a branch of economic analysis called "tax incidence" (see Wikipedia) devoted to calculating who actually pays a given tax.

The application of the theory to a sales tax on gas is pretty straightforward, which is why pretty much all economists agree that this tax borne mostly by producers, not consumer, and therefore its elimination will mostly benefit producers, not consumers.

The application of the theory to a profit tax is much less clear-cut. Whether it is borne by consumers or owners depends in part on whether accounting rules can be "gamed" to make a profit disappear for tax purposes. The indicence of a windfall profit tax, which attempts to figure out what the profit would have been in the absence of some real event and levy a tax on the difference between that imaginary profit and the real profit, is even murkier; such taxes has historically resulted in endless lawsuits over how the windfall should be calculated.

In summary: (1) In theory, it's entirely possible for the tax incidence of a profit tax be different than the tax incidence of a sales tax. Knowing hat a sales tax is borne mostly by consumers or producers doesn't allow you to say with certainly that the incidence of a profit tax would look the same. (2) Assuming that what you want is for producers to bear the tax, it's hard to see how switching from a sales to a profix tax could help in this particular case, since the sales tax is already borne mostly by the producers.

Still looking for someone to explain why they used the title of an AP article, melded with a photoshopped New York Post article talking about TROOPERGATE. (neither source cited) Also, In their rush to put up images reminding her voters how much she's been "victimized" by Obama, why the hell would you include one with a CITED quote stating, "CLINTON AIDS ADMIDT...HELP HER POLITICALLY"?? I'm Hillary Clinton and I approved this message, right? Punked or not, like so many other aspects of her campaign, they blew it. And as Pres. Truman, her favorite quotable president liked to say--"The buck stops here."

The only folks drinking any Kool Aid are the ones actually buying what this pathetic, petty, pandering, solipsistic a**hole is selling. "Help, help, I'm being attacked and repressed! Save me hard-working Americans, white Americans!" According to the online gas tax calculator, I would save all of 15 dollars this summer thanks to HillBill & Sleepy McBush.

While watching that video, the part the struck me the most was her faining love for the proletariat voters... I can almost see her singing her mantra over and over again in her head: "Just two more months, Hills, just two more months and we'll have complete control... BWAHAHAHAHA!!"

And then she bit the head off a bat or some shit.

TROOPERGATE. ha! Thats where Larry Patterson and Roger Perry (2 arkansas state troopers) said they arranged sex liaisons for Bill Clinton. The fact that this word was artificially Photoshopped into a Hillary ad, AND the ad features clear text reading "Clinton Aides admit it won't do much for you" AND "Obama plan: tax oil companies" (revealing that he does indeed, have a plan) shows a level of incompetence that is astounding. The context doesn't matter. This ad isn't just TO 5 year-olds, it looks like it was made BY 5 year-olds.

Good job on this Dan- it's getting the huge play it deserves on Huffington, Digg, and Daily Kos. The word "troopergate" is now back in the news!

It's a trend, whenever Hillary is about to win another primary we see an irrelevant, Hillary bashing post on Slog.

IT's like this defense mechanism.

Relax, don't fel so threatened, Obama's going to win. Yes, it's scary to ask your self why he can't win in a state like Oh or PA being ahead and spending millions more, or today why is he going to lose WV big time? OR why'd he just basically give up on Ky?

But man up, he has time to recover in time for the general election.

MEanwhile he's going to FL and MI addressing those concerns mentioned here about those states...he's startign the general eletion campaign as suggested....he's starting the national voter reg. drive...oh btw how come no word of that here? Where do we sign up to go visit NM or NV or CO and get some sunshine registering voters this summer?

@17 unPC

"Yes, it's scary to ask your self why he can't win in a state like.."

ummm beacuse hillary is still in the race? she can help him win those states by dropping out.

"OR why'd he just basically give up on Ky"

you are aware that hillary "gave up" on 23+ states and territories to focus on 27 right?

"Where do we sign up to go visit NM or NV or CO and get some sunshine registering voters this summer?"

ummm have you tried googling it? the deomcratic party could actually use you help. but i'm sure you were just joking. keep fighting you nobel fight mi amigo.

Thanks David that was awesome. I figured it might have something to do with a bit deeper analysis than I was using to bash Hillary (maybe something to do with it being a per-unit vs a fixed tax, but it sounds like that's just the beginning.) I'm still going to bash her though.

p.s. So... PC and unPC are different right?

don't matter if it makes sense or is worth it or how it is paid, who pays in the long run or any of that logical stuff being pointed out. . .just like the many, many USA'rs BHO says cling to their guns and religion - they will cling to a little gas relief. or tax rebate incentives or a 5K loan.

The thing is... didn't the president just send everyone a fucking $600 check? It's horrible but I want to ask the gas is expensive people what did you do with that? We'd be better off just cutting people another check.
