What the hell was he doing driving a Hyundai?
Sounds like someone's been imparting good values to their child!
This is kind of like the time I saw Crocodile Tears. When finished, I pulled The Commitment and Skipping Towards Gomorrah from my shelves, grabbed some lighter fluid, and did what had to be done.
Way to go, Kid! I did the same thing when Tonya Harding's goon hurt poor Nancy. Down came that Tonya poster!
You should be proud of yourself, Dan. Sounds like evidence of excellent parenting.
good for him, and GREAT for you and Terry (I think thats the hubby's name?)
@3. Oh my god, Mr. Poe. Who knew?! I wonder if I can Netflix that. . .
Why do I find that he was busted in a McDonald's parking lot the most disturbing part of the story?
At least one eyed poodles never get DUIs.
Poe, was alien vs. predator the worst movie ever or the most derivative movie ever?
The worst movie ever made is--and has been for quite some time now--The Mosquito Coast.
Movies like AVP can't be described as "worst" in anything to me. I think it has something to do with having an IQ above 40 and knowing what you're about to see, and why you want to see it in the first place. There isn't much room for letdown. And I never wanted to see it, anyway. PG-13? Yeah. Real derivative.
Yeah, great parenting. You're raising a judgmental and unforgiving little creep.
Hell yeah, kid!
Way to go dan! You're the best parent ever! You're just...so...well, just such a great role model for your kid! Please, keep all of us informed on the next happenings.
Most kids would have just gone ahead and had a drink.
to err is human, to forgive divine. a DUI is largely a matter of chance, and it was the bust-happy Kirkland Po.
does the kid know that his dad has driven drunk (remember, buzzed driving is drunk driving), likely on more than one occasion?
@12 and 16: Oh, come on! So the kid realizes that drunk drivers are not people he wants to look up to - so what? The poster will probably go back up someday once he realizes that Lofa Tatupu is a good person who made a bad mistake once in his life. It's a ten year-old, for crying out loud. How nuanced do you expect his reaction to be?
Did you really expect him to hear the news and say, "well, you know how it is with the Kirkland 5-0"? Give the kid (and his parents) a break.
kid sounds like a prude in the making.
It's just a fucking DUI, who gives a shit? Everybody I know has gad at least one. It's not like he's an axe murderer or something.
I wonder if it was a gay icon or celebrity that got a DUI and little Dan pulled off the poster, all these wine and cheese eaters on this board would be so complimentary of the parenting skills.
I'd comment on that @20, but presently I am busy eating wine and cheese.
I did the same thing when I was 7 and Supersonic Dale Ellis got in a drunken wreck on I-5. Good work, Dan/Dan's kid.
Poe, I wasn't expecting wholesale plagiarism or "creative reuse of the exact same lines" from the predecessors in AVP.
Mosquito Coast was just Fitzcorraldo but bad.

Are you kidding me?!?!?
The Mosquito Coast is a great movie!!!
It's just a fucking DUI, who gives a shit? Everybody I know has gad at least one. That should be a clue, really.
@19
Really? Who the hell do you hang out with? Do you derive every single friendship from AA meetings?
Driving while drunk, unlike social, responsible drinking and pot smoking, is INCREDIBLY dangerous and reckless. You not only risk your (admittedly worthless) life doing it, but also innocents around you. It is something to be taken extremely seriously and heavily punished for, no matter what you or your drunken idiot friends want to think.
The average person is already a horrible driver. The last thing we need is alcohol to enter the equation. Dan was not saying getting sloshed is a bad thing. Driving while doing it though? To try and downplay the stupidity of such an act is absolutely reprehensible.
Once you get a DUI/DWI on your record, you can't get into Canada. That alone would suck bigtime.
I wish I could live a perfect life where I never use poor judgment or make mistakes like MarsAttack. I so want to be you.
Newspapers are for adults, not families.
way to exploit ur kid's actions into ur own gains.
I think it would be better if the kid learned that even good people (and everything points to Tatupu being one) can make bad mistakes. But that doesn't mean you just write them off.
How drunk was Terry when he let your dog fall out of the car?
Yes, because I said no one should ever make mistakes. . . .
. . . only not. What I *did* say was Drunk Driving is a reprehensible act that should be severely punished and not downplayed by an idiot going "it was ONLY a DUI, man". Many, many innocent lives have been lost because of this "mistake".
Yes, EVERYONE makes mistakes. I make tons of them. But not only is this fact NOT a get-out-of-repercussions-free card, it certainly won't bring back those who died because you were too stupid to plan ahead.
I didn't say people should never be forgiven for a horrible mistake they made. The argument I would put forth is that such forgiveness should come at a price. The harsher the mistake the bigger the price. If this athlete is not punished heavily he simply won't learn, and the example he would set would be horrible.
Is he only human? Sure. Should he be forgiven? Why not. Should he be punished and scorned for such a dangerous and irresponsible action? No freakin' DUH.
Oh, and I know you don't like us bringing up teh family and all, but you do it so often I have to wonder if it only bothers you when it's a jab. Forgive me.
So if Lofa learns from his mistake and never gets a DUI again, will you get off your high horse and shut the hell up.
About that post -- I actually worry what will happen if one of his dads should ever get a DUI. Some of them seem rather... arbitrary. It seemed a little harsh to me. Luckily he doesn't put up posters of us in his bedroom, and he already thinks we're totally lame.
I'm a little late on the draw here, but...
@1: Perhaps someone went to the doctor and bought lypo with his money?
I just take my own poster down before I go to work. Just in case it's a rough day.
