It is a long drawn-out horror of a show, with interminable 'voting' sequences "Hello, this is Bucharest calling!...". The ills of modern society are laid bare, as everyone gangs up on the UK and Ireland, the Slavic countries vote for each other, the Germanic, Iberian & Scandinavian countries likewise, and the acts generally suck. But the booze and other intoxicants at the parties were not bad.

And remember the timezone difference, this will be starting sometime in mid/late-morning, Seattle time.

When describing the concept to folks that aren't familiar with it, I ask them to imagine what it would be like if performing cheesy pop songs were an Olympic event, with all the competitive nationalism ("France, you suck!") and sparkly glitter of professional ice skating (spangles! spangles! spangles!). Not only is it incredibly entertaining, but it's also educational since you learn a bit more about the lesser-known European countries ("wait, where's Slovenia again?"). At least, I tell myself it's educational. Kind of like how when I lived overseas, I told myself that watching lots of TV was a purely sociological exercise.

One small detail ... this coming Friday is the 23rd, not the 24th.
