Visual Art Envision Single Elvis

onThis is the piece I referred to earlier, that has been damaged and is in the conservation studio for repairs.
Sadly, what you see in the gallery now is just the left panel, and it’s going to be that way for a little while. (SAM spokeswoman Cara Egan said this afternoon that conservators are backed up preparing the Inspiring Impressionism show (opening June 19) and won’t be able to reinstall it until after then.)
Seems as good a time as any to recall how the piece got its belated right panel. I’ll be back with that sometime soon.

they should just leave the dent. i think warhol would like that.
@1 -- I agree. They left the bullet hole in Shot Marilyn.
Yeah. Art happens.
Warhol would like it, because that's the way he set it up, initially, this was possible, so this is just one of those happeninz.
He'd like it all the other ways it could be damaged, too.
I think Warhol would just tell the Museum to replace the panel.
I didn't even think Warhol actually painted the blank panel. I thought he intended for it to be there, but never actually made it, and agreed to let a local frame shop create it after its sale...
Authenticity was meaningless to Warhol.
I think they should paint a mustache on one or both of the surviving Elvii. Marcel Duchamp would have wanted it that way.
@6 Be an artist. Do it. Endow not a faceless "they" with your creative will.
The child will no doubt suffer for years from the confusion over being upset at damaging a flat silver canvas, unless of course she is mentally retarded, which is likely enough. Vorpal blades would be much more effective than a little piece of wood molding. Though I guess having little retarded girl blood all over a the canvas wouldn't be much of an improvement over the dent.
Warhol sucks.
