The Vomit, I mean The Comet... May 20th is the next
Murphy's in Wallingford, Old Peculiar in Ballard. Or they used to.
Back in the day, Finn McCool's trivia night was pretty close to what you were describing, but I haven't gone in a couple of years. "What was the name of the female ghost in Pac-Man?" type stuff.
Clever Dunne's trivia night was pretty fun too. The Irish Emigrant's trivia was really, really hard (you would really have had to have a knowledge of '90s international sports).
The Old Peculiar on Tuesdays at 8 is great. There's rotating hosts but usually all have a strong nerd bias. I have yet to find the mythical trivia holy land that only asks questions about Star Wars.
Montlake Ale has trivia on Wednesdays, 8:00 pm. They've been know to cover comics, Star Wars, and Chuck Norris movies.
We *must* team up!
I miss those old NTN bar trivia games... wonder why I've never seen one in Seattle?
@4- I used to HOST just such a magical nerd trivia, but I don't anymore.
@4: isn't that bar in Ballard, though?
Tuesday Nights at Clever Dunnes.
First place is $40... at least last time I went.
The Hopvine on 15th has trivia once a month...
Yeah, it's not on the Hill, but Norm's in Fremont has a not-too-hard one and great happy hour prices at the same time. Thursday nights.
Clever Dunnes is good times on Tuesday
In north Seattle:
Friday nights at the Monkey Pub, with your host, Alexander Bitchcock: "turn in your fuckers!" This is the most fun trivia in town.
Tuesday nights at Cooper's: good grilled cheese sandwiches; hard questions.
Monday nights at Kate's Pub: amiable yet efficient, medium difficulty.
@7 Chili's on Lake Union has, or used to have, NTN Trivia. Friends and I used to go there during the Great Unemployment of 2001 for happy hour and trivia. Not that Chili's is any good, but it was cheap food, drink, and entertainment.
A friend keeps trying to get me to the Great Nabob on Queen Anne, but unless it's exclusively teen lit, indie rock, Joss Whedon, and Slog trivia, I might be useless.
QuizNight.net does not seem to be very up to date. We tried to go to trivia at T.S. McHugh's last night on their suggestion and it had been discontinued for the summer.
The Wedgwood Broiler, Sundays 9:30. It's crazy easy to beat all the baby boomers and wells are like $2.50.
The Old Pequliar's trivia is awful. I'd rather be waterboarding.
Scary Tyler Moore and I are available to help your team, for a price. Always for a price...
Murphy's food is bad, and their trivia selection is lame. I know the Homeland Security people are horrible at the borders, but you can get the fuck out of Capitol Hill once in a poofie while.
I am still searching for the holy grail: trivia with wings. Good wings, not shitty wingdome.
The internet has proved useless in finding this combo.
I'm partial to the Old Pequliar, since I host the first Tuesday of each month, but no one pub's going to be to everyone's taste.
You might want to check out the All-Star Pop Culture Trivia at Jillian's, though, as it's all pop culture, which probably includes Star Wars and comic books. Next season starts tomorrow night. I've yet to go, but I'd really like to try it out.
Kate's is good. Mulleady's in Magnolia is good. The George & Dragon is hard but fun.
@21—For the millionth time, I don't live on Capitol Hill. Sometimes it's fun to go do stuff after work though without having to drive back up to the north end.
@17: Quiznight.net pretty much relies on people letting them know about quizzes that have started and stopped. I tried to go to Talarico's for trivia once when it had closed up -- QuizNight took the info down when I emailed 'em.
@19: As someone who hosts at the OP, I'm honestly interested in why it sucks. Especially if I was hosting when it did.
The Comet's trivia is the best and funnest in town. The host is dreamy and the crowd is encouraged to throw things at anyone and everyone, because, after all, what's the point of losing if you can't take it out on someone?
And for all the smartypants at the Stranger (located a block away), how come no one ever bothers to show up? Bawk bawk bawk?
May 20th is the next one. Every other Tuesday thereafter. 9pm. $10/team. Winner gets $$$ and maybe a t-shirt(s).
@12 is right. Norm's is pretty good.
$10???? That's crack prices!
I dig the Comet, and I wouldn't mind playing trivia there, but I'm just not willing to shell out that kind of dough to play trivia.
Trivia at Fado is pretty easy, but on the nights I've gone, no one -- the host, the players, the staff -- seems to be having much fun. There's no sassiness, and some of the questions are truly trivial. (Example: "In what year was Toys for Tots founded?")
My recommendation for a place that's awesome and also happens to be on the hill is Clever Dunnes. The hosts do their best to make sure players have a good time and/or get drunk, and while there's the occasional "who the fuck would know that?" question, most rounds have a little something for everyone. And it's free. Every Tuesday at 9.
I've heard Wildrose started a trivia nights on Mondays. Keep meaning to go, but keep forgetting til it's too late.
That's not outrageous if you have friends who come along with you. Especially when you all split the winnings.
you can play pop-culture trivia at jillian's in south lake union. it's a league, so you can build points over the season, or just show up and play for a night. $10 for up to 6 people on team. the season starts tomorrow night! www.allstarpopculture.com
it's a pretty fun trivia night. it can be very challenging, though.
Clever Dunne's is only good if the Reverend is presiding over the chaos. It goes a bit too long...usually past 11pm. I should be in my jammies by then.
Go to the Wedgwood Broiler, and order a Viceroy.
@8 - Jonah Jonah Jonah pleeeeaaaasseeee bring back your nerd trivia, holy god that would be awesome.
And to actually contibute, we ended up at the Ballroom in Fremont on Trivia night by accident, and the questions seemed really easy - smart people could totally roll in and destroy the blonde girls and fratty boyfriends in attendance.
