It doesn't take a millionaire senator to be a hopeless case when it comes to the gas station. I have a few friends who ask me to pump their gas because they can't be bothered to learn. I don't drive, but I figured it out in about three seconds.

Those machines suck. Some machines you press the button and it stops automatically; that looks like one of the ones you have to hold down. It's one thing to disagree with her politics or find her disingenuous, but personally, I don't need a president who can operate a fucking gas station coffee machine.

But, whatever. Hope, change, rah rah rah.

Awww

It's also a very hot substance that can be blasted out of it, so I understand her tepidness.

Right before you posted this, the actual thought in my head, I swear, was "I wonder if McCain would really be a worse President than Hillary?" But even I think this video is unfair bullshit.

People, please. However the machines work, it's not complicated. There's a spout. The cup probably goes there. There's a button above it. You probably hit it to make it go. Does it stop when you let go? Well then, hold it down until your cup is close to full, stupid.

I wanna watch her heat a jumbo bean burrito in the gas station microwave and eat it.

Maybe it was out of coffee? Anyway, she was fiddling with it for less than thirty seconds. I find it hard to imagine that even the most fanatical Obama supporter would really think this clip proves anything.

Look, she's not as incompetent as King George is.

Or as delusional as Three Wars For A Hundred Years Prince McCain is.

But nobody said she wasn't as out of touch as King George's dad, Bush The Cynical.

I'll bet she thinks five dollar bills are all green too ... that's how out of it she is.

Fnarf, where I grew up you heat the burrito on the dash with the defroster going. She'll have to have another ride in the F-250 if that's to happen.

Strait from Drudge...

It is good to know that the Stranger staff is hot on the heels on the reporting that OTHER people have reported.

This has been on Drudge all afternoon.

i haven't seen such a brazen demonstration of elistism and out-of-touch-ism since obama refused to eat a cheese steak in philadelphia. the right-wing message boards will no doubt be a-buzzin' tonight!

As a frequenter of road trips and truck stop coffee in all of it's delivery inceptions, I can say I have never seen a machine exactly like the one in the video. If I put a cup down, pushed the button, and nothing happened, I'd probably a little befuddled as well.

What I wouldn't do, however, is look up the spout of the machine to see what's wrong ala Elmer Fudd. But that's probably a generational thing. People my age and younger would most likely push the button a hundred times impatiently, or turn the machine on-and-off until it began working again.

If she really wanted to connect with middle-American voters, then she would have asked for assistance from the cashier immediately, uttered "this is ridiculous", and asked for the coffee free because of her inconvenience.

It's still a pleasure to see the powerful, political blowhard class get befuddled by instant gas station coffee.

And those push-button machines, that's not even really coffee. That's instant cocoa, or instant vanilla caramel creme de cafe or some bullshit. I do not approve.

In the interest of full disclosure I doubt I'll vote (for her).

Let's not start acting like the Hillary camp and taking any excuse we can. I overfilled the cup, burned myself, had to do it twice before I figured out the same thing at the Zocalo 7-11 in Mexico City this winter. (Yes, 7-11 has driven all the little tiendas out of business in the Centro since last year - there are about one on every block west of the Cathedral). Blame HilLIARy for that, (I love NAFTA, I don't love NAFTA) but not her being unable to figure out the machine. Don't get me wrong, she still sucks.

I absolutely despise AmericaBlog. John Aravosis is nothing but a flip-flopping hypocrite (he was ALSO a Republican, just like "Goldwater Girl" Hillary):

http://www.americablog.com/2007/10/obama-issues-3-page-memo-explaining.html

http://www.americablog.com/2007/10/breaking-obama-says-wont-pull-anti-gay.html

Now, all of a sudden he just LOVES Obama? I live in Oregon and will vote for Obama all the way, but I have found AmericaBlog is nothing - NOTHING - but a Let's Trash Hillary site.

I hate the bashing, and it has got to stop. If there is any bashing, it should all be aimed at McCain, not at the Democrats.

Everyone is acting like children, and keep acting this way and you can bet your bottom dollar you WILL have McCain for President.

It's funny, because if this was Obama, the Clinton campaign would have plastered it everywhere and somehow linked it to Obama being a secret terrorist.

1.
@35
hey yeah, hyuk, hyuk, that bitch Hillary,. wow, she woulda done this and she woulda done that, yuk, yuk.

Methinks the caricature of Obama supporters as intelligent, super educated cerbral types is a bit overdrawn. Attacking people for things they haven't done? Eh, that's usually consdiered not an argument, but a simplistic, cheerleading, swoonish, type rant.

2.
RCP polls showing huge movement toward Clinton:

North Carolina 48.4 - 41.2 Obama +7.2

IE no longer in double digit land. Survey USA has him only up 5. Throw in the noticeable tendency for him to underperfrom compared to polls and it's a draw.

Indiana 43.7 - 46.3 Clinton +2.6

Hmm a few days agao BHO was up by 3. Movement of 5 points in as many days. Not good.

General Election McCain-Obama McCain-Clinton
National Tie Clinton +2.9
Wow. A few days agao Obama did better than Clinton and McCain bested Clinton. Clinton has improved and OBama has fallen a bit.

Pennsylvania Tie Clinton +5.2

Solidly more electable in Pa.

Ohio McCain +2.6 Clinton +5.0

Even more solidly electable in OH.

3. Compelling need for BHO to pick HRC as VP (and vice versa should she get it, of course) is more and more obvious every day.

In fact, only way to heal divisions. The divisions are pretty deep as shown on this site. In nearly every post. But like it or not, we gotta unite.

4. Just wondering -- Obama always says his mom got food stamps.

Anyone got info on that?

She lived in Hawaii with her own mother who was a highly regarded bank executive. She was then married to an Indonesian student who became an oil company executive and Barry went to private schools, it seems, his whole life. I'm not sure but that would include in Indonesia, his HA HS, Occidental, Columbia, Harvard Law School, etc.

I don't know enough to question the claim he was "raised by a single mom on food stamps" but what I do know is that like the whole Rev. Wright thing, this area of his life is a huge blank slate.

Was his Mom on food stamps while he and his mom lived with his bank executive VP grandma? While his Mom was a kind of beatnick-y ahead-of-her time grad student? Who took care of him when she was studying? How'd he grow up, really?
Isn't this claim of bbeing "raised on food stamps" a stretch because most of his childhood his Mom either lived with her bank exec Mother or with her oil col ecec. husband? Weere the food stamps just a couple of months? A year? Did the family and the grandmother move to Hawaii from Kansas because.....it wasn't so cool being a biracial family in Kansas in that era? Could be lots of interesting stuff pro or con.

Usually we have the full picture. In view of the huge negatives of the Rev. Wright thing (a huge blank slate getting filled in negatively) I think it behooves all of us to learn this stuff. Any links would be appreciated.

5. Ditto regarding his law practice, there was a story a week ago that fter being State Senator he got a $8000 retinaer a month from a tech company when previously he had no law practice involving corporate representation then he wrote a letter for them on his senatorial letterhead and they got a contract which led to more contracts, etc.

How'd he get to keep the whole retainer instead of sharing it with his partners as usually would happen? Or did he? Any other law work where his quaulifications were thin or nonexistent other than being a state senator?

Dontcha think we oughter know?

Like, right now?

Now pardon me while I go cling to my gun, my whiskey and my bible. What'd that prophet Jeremiah say again??
Was he lived know if that went as far back
Florida McCain +11.7 McCain +0.3

Clinton electable, Obama a disaster. It's only the 4th largest state in the fucking Union and the biggest swing state why should we care? Ho-hum say the Obama supporters, look at ND, MT etc.

Wisconsin Obama +4.3 McCain +3.3

Again a large advantage for OBama. He's also more electable in MN and IA according to other polls.

North Carolina 48.4 - 41.2 Obama +7.2
Indiana 43.7 - 46.3 Clinton +2.6
General Election McCain-Obama McCain-Clinton
National Tie Clinton +2.9
Pennsylvania Tie Clinton +5.2
Ohio McCain +2.6 Clinton +5.0
Florida McCain +11.7 McCain +0.3

clinton and obama did have similar moments. obama at the bowling alley and clinton at the gas station. clinton made fun of obama at a press conference; we'll see if obama does the same, or if -- as suggested here -- obama takes the high road on these non-issues of who is more "common".

Posted by infrequent | May 1, 2008 9:23 AM

listen....it's always funny to watch rich people do the stuff us common folk are so use to doing. bowling, driving, making coffee, pumping gas, pushing a shopping cart, using a shovel, etc. i could watch shit like this all day. why do you think people liked watching the beverly hillbillies? same thing.

but if people use this to justify if a person is president worthy, fuck 'em.

I have a friend who is a highly skilled surgeon, she has performed thousands of operations yet never learned to drive. The point of this being, one doesn't necessarily need to know how perform an unimportant task to be able to perform an important one.

who'd be worse in that situation? the patient not wanting a surgeon unless they could drive... or the surgeon pretending they could drive to sooth the patient?

i prefer telling the patient a good surgeon doesn't have to able to drive, and why.
