posted by on April 12 at 17:22 PM

Four fire trucks just drove by me and stopped at 15th and Mercer. What is burning? Does anyone know? I hope none of you are on fire.

Up-to-the-minute dispatch information can be found here:

It is coded as a fire in a single-family residence.

Just walked up the street to take a look, since I also heard about 40 sirens. It looked like there was a home under construction, and the top floor had burst into flames somehow. Nobody seemed to know how or why. One of the trucks had their ladder fully extended up onto the roof, which was teeming with firemen. Didn't seem like anyone was hurt, though.

There were 2 fire trucks and 2 ambulances screaming toward Golden Gardens around dusk -- they show up in the 911 logs as "medic response."

First nice day of the year, and people are setting their shit on fire. Darwin at work...

also firetrucks all afternoon at 20th and Madison today, and at the Pacific Science Center last night. I almost called a noise complaint.

Motherfuckers better not call 911 while I'm trying to sleep tonight. I don't care if you're being raped, murdered, whatever. Don't fuck up my sleep.

Yah, that's an awful feeling when you hear sirens sort of subconsciously...and then realize that you are still hearing them...or worse, that they've gotten rather close and suddenly stopped.

XY's electability, and not in a good way.

NYT: "David Saunders, a Democratic strategist and rural advocate, advised John Edwards’s presidential campaign but is now neutral. He said he believed that Mr. [XY]'s comments would offend rural voters. “It could mean he’s rendered himself unelectable,” Mr. Saunders said. “This is a perfect example of why Democrats lose elections.” "

Shhhhhh . . . . .do not discuss.

A working fire in Seattle will get a butt-load of apparatus.

Believe it or not, a fire in a single family residence is the smallest response for a working structure fire.

SFD usually sends enough firefighters into the structure to stamp the fire out with their feet. Don't worry. If that tactic fails, SFD keeps enough chiefs on hand to extinguish the fire with hot air and bullshit.
