Thanks for posting this Dan, I'm going to pass it along to my members.
Too bad it's the same night as the Washington Bus event at Moe's.
Less staffers means less managers, right?
Wrong.
@3 There are now more managers in some newsroom departments than there are actual "workers." I feel bad for the people who were laid off involuntarily and I plan to help them tomorrow night. Expect that paper to get a lot worse. It's a petri dish of bad ideas, starting with WHO in their right mind buys three little Maine newspapers in 1998 for sentimental sake?
Who is going to hold a fundraiser for us when we get laid off or no longer have a place to live?
I almost wish I could go because I'm envisioning a scene between the Stranger writers and the Seattle Times writers similar to the one in Anchorman with the competing television stations.
Seriously, Dan it's nice of you guys to support them.
On Friday, April 25, 10% of the revenue from all of the advertisers on the last four pages of The Stranger will go to displaced Seattle Times reporters.
The event will be called Whore Out for the Times
Bong hits with Mike Carter? hmmm. Now, if you were doing bong hits with Danny Westneat, I'd be there.
@8 - word.
wow, only clinton on the ballot? they should either vote again or not count..
did i mention hillary campaigned there even though she agreed it was against the rules?
It was a Guild event, for the Membership Assistance Fund. It wasn't Postman's event. In answer to Comment No. 5 -- nobody will, if you're not in a union. Duh.
@11, yes exactly, it was a Guild event. I don't think anyone said it was my event. Not at all. I was just trying to get some publicity for it.
And Dan, thanks so much for showing up. It was great to see you and Tim Keck there.
The Weekly was represented by Rick Anderson, there were some community folks there, too.
I need to read more carefully. I see that Dan did say I was "hosting" this event. I was not, and did not. I did not organize it and I apologize for any misunderstanding that took away from the hard work done by Liz Brown and the staff at the Newspaper Guild. I was trying to raise some money from outside the Times and outside the Guild and that's why I reached out to Dan and others and invited them to the fundraiser.
I didn't go because David Postman was going.
Postman crossed.
