article in Politco, "Obama aims for pro gun vote" saying he has “believes the Second Amendment creates an individual right" to bear arms -- that is he is with the NRA and against the DC side int he pending court case which is about whether or not a city can ban handguns.

Worse, this means Obama is a flip flopper on this issue. His 1996 position was pro gun bans as discussed in an earlier Politico story: "both versions of the 1996 questionnaires provide answers his presidential campaign disavows to questions about whether Obama supports capital punishment and state legislation to “ban the manufacture, sale and possession of handguns.” He responded simply “No” and “Yes,” respectively, to those questions on both questionnaires."
[They disavow those answers but that disavoawl is bullshit; his handwritten notes are on the questionnaires, his long time campaign mananger filled in the answers, every candidate knows they need a position on this issue).

So now he's pro NRA and he's a flip flopper -- he's getting a free pass by the media now, but he won't this fall.

And if HRC really was "doing anything to win" she would be blasting him with ads about this flip flop, about the house with lawn bought by Rezko with money from the tainted Middle Eastern rich guy in London, and how he got into the state senate thru throwing 3 other democrats off the ballot.
Like he's trying to throw out a few hundred delegates from FL and MI today.

So: boy is she holding back.
So: they won't this fall.

another interesting article linked at politico on Obama's career as a lawyer

http://www.latimes.com/news/politics/la-na-obamalegal6apr06,0,26672.story?page=2

expect to see more reportage as he wins the nomination, etc. btw as alawyer some good, some neutral, some bad; enforcing motor-voter law good, defending landlord alleged to not provide heat bad; he didn't lead too much on anything.

FYI -- SGN in co operation with PGN has the Hillary interview on this weeks, Friday, print edition.

sgn.org - as well. I still like Obama better, but, god she is a fighter.

I don't know how anyone can know English and not realize that the wording of the Second Amendment clearly confers an individual right to own guns. The stated purpose of individual gun ownership is to make it easier to form a well-regulated militia to defend against invasions and insurrections.

People opposed to guns are ignoring the right that is actually granted, and people who support guns are ignoring the rationale.

If people don't like the Second Amendment, they need to repeal it, not ignore it. I wouldn't mind some regulation in urban areas to keep idiots away from guns, so long as legitimate uses were allowed. On the other hand, I think the politics of guns make it a losing issue and it's not worth losing elections to take a stand against guns. I'd much rather we focus on violence, segregation and ethnic mistrust, social division, poverty, and the other root causes of gun violence instead of focusing on a physical item that is inherently morally neutral. Both gun nuts and anti-gun activists view guns as a fetish, and it's unhelpful in both cases.

In other news, Mark Penn just stepped down from the Clinton campaign. Did Hillary Clinton finally decide that her supporters' $10 million in contributions were not all that well spent on him? Sadly, probably not. It's probably just the little NAFTA blowup.

tsm good one, you beat me to it. Penn is canned. Penn is no go in Penn.

http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/0408/Penn_sidelined.html

[btw it wasn't NAFTA it's a Colombian Free Trade Agreement....]

Good move by HRC to can his ass as she is saying she does not like free trade agreements. Why hasn't Obama canned Goolsbee for saying Obama's line on re-doing NAFTA is just talk?

And how come we all don't care that both of them are pandering like crazy on this?
Both being old style pols??
If we withdraw from NAFTA then Mexico and Canada will retaliate or exact a price in some way ....perhaps less cooperation on border control?

That notion our foreign policy must be based on diplomacy will also take a hit....no one wants to make agreements or help out a nation that makes agreements then reneges.

Politico also has "no campus surge for Obama in PA," and the story on Obama now favoring the NRA position on the 2d amendment (note: as this example of lying and pandering and flip flopping does not fit the "new politics" narrative, it is to be ignored. However, if HRC engages in similar activity, we shall be be up in "arms" about it -- "she'll say anything to win," etc. etc. In contrast, Obama gets a free pass).

unPC, you really should get a life. you're a sad, pathetic human. of course, i'm not being fair to mankind by calling you a human.

God, unPC is boring.

Meanwhile, in the real world, Obama picked up more delegates in the caucus process in WA from Clinton ...

wow unPC. I mean just wow. If only I was a myopic voter who had false illusions about Obama toting the PC position on everything I'ld be interested in your post. Wait a second. I thought unPC wasn't supposed to be PC. Yet, unPC seems to routinely post things that are supposed to shock PC sensibilities. Maybe unPC needs to start calling him or herself PC.

@6: He's referring to Clinton's double-speak on NAFTA. You know her whole "Honestly, I was secretly against it even though I was publicly and privately arguing for it" routine?

If you ever want to know more about the kind of world UnPC inhabits, check out her co-blogger Larry Johnson at NoQuarter.net. Since it's campaign season, he's taking a break from defending the reputation of CIA-backed South American death squads (Good for Democracy!) and focusing on how many different ways he can call Obama a n*gger.
