The Jaeger Schnitzel Has Left The Building

posted by on April 17 at 10:00 AM

In my column this week, I wrote about The Geneva Restaurant, a place I have been mildly obsessed with since I moved to Seattle but have never actually eaten at. And never will, as it has just closed. (The Fine Dining Etiquette Seminar I mentioned is now canceled.)

Geneva is gone and an Italian restaurant, Rustica, has taken its place. In place of Geneva’s old school European cuisine (bunderfleisch, emince of veal bernoise, pan-fried calf’s liver, jaeger schnitzel), Rustica will offer classic Italian fare (pastas and risottos, saltimboca). I called last night—Rustica is open for business.

RIP, Geneva. I hardly knew ye.

That's too bad. Their fois gras appetizer was incredible. The atmosphere was great: classy, quiet, relaxing, great service. Definitely not your typical downtown Seattle wannabe trendy, pseudo snotty shit hole.

We too have always been fascinated by Geneva, but never made it in. We kept meaning to, but.... It seemed like a true relic of a bygone era. The building is nice too.

Damn. That totally sounds like the kind of place I would have enjoyed (mmm, heavy Germanic food), and I never even knew it was there.

I'd heard once they made a great Chateaubriand. I'm sorry I never stopped in.

Jaeger Schnitzel with crispy french fries is one of my favorite meals. But I only get it when I go to Germany to visit friends. The wife is a great cook and makes it for me. Yum! Yum!

after spending 2 years near udine, i've yet to eat at a bland and shitty italian restaurant this side of the dolomiti.

Huh. I'll have to print this out and take it in. Those of us who were around while it was Geneva and continue to work at Rustica will, I'm sure, all appreciate it. The grill guy will like to know that someone enjoyed his foie gras and chateaubriand so much.

Mmm.... Jäger Schnitzel is good stuff. You can find it anywhere here in Vienna... and no, it does not contain any Jägermeister.
