Visiting Tourist Taxpayer Field!

I still think it should have been named for Niehaus. "The Haus"

"Reluctant Taxpayers of Western Washington Memorial Ballpark"

Should have been called that from the beginning, since we were the ones who ponied up $500mil and counting for the damned thing after we voted against paying for it.

How is it that Safeco can drop a paltry $2mil and have their name plastered all over it?

I like 'Taxpayer Field' but I like 'Extortion Field' even better.

We could just rescind the name and sell the naming rights again ...

Screw the naming rights. Call it Edgar Field.

yes, but EVERY ballpark/stadium/arena would have to be called that...

I hope they sell the rights to Boeing.

if we need a new name, maybe we could put it to a county-wide vote. after the people select their favorite, the council could just call whatever they wanted to call it anyways.

I feel for you. Here in MN, they've raised the sales tax in Hennepin County to cover the costs of the new Twins Ballpark. Glad I moved to St. Paul...

They have already stated that, since Safeco is retaining its identity, the stadium's name will not be changed.

The name is obsolete? Obviously a new stadium is needed.

I'm hoping that Titan will buy the rights and rename it "TitanMen Field", then we can get "Joe Gage's Locker Room Gang Bang on Rt 101" on local video store shelves as soon as possible.

That's usually how it goes. I still work in the Bank of America building, and across the street is still the TransAmerica tower, neither hold relevant from a corporate standpoint, but the naming licenses always remain. Then again, I don't even know what the fuck the name of the Giants park is... AT&T I think, but that could have been 2 names ago for all I know.

I understand the whole naming rights thing, but I'll never understand why sports fans - especially given the industry's propensity for nicknames and sports codespeak - let these rotating sponsors creep into their vernacular. I've always thought the public should decide on a name, and stick with it, naming rights be damned. The old Candlestick Park is still Candlestick Park to 80% of anyone you'd ask around here, despite everything.
