That article is almost the same as the Seattle Times article, not surprisingly. This was even more an unquestioning shill for the police. Why don't they just print the press release and be done with it? Why even bother to send a "reporter"?

OK, then I am assuming that the Stranger is working on a balanced piece of reporting that not only gives the information from the police press release but also the counter point about why drug raids are a waste. I think it would also be useful to disprove the fact that this large well connected grow operation had anything to do with Asian gangs or other criminal activity. And while you are at it, something the other papers didn't cover is if the people arrested are in this country legally or not. And if they aren't, was this also an elaborate immigration bust.

Yeah, expect that report to happen ... never.

Since when does a free bar-ad rag have time for such ground-breaking investigative jouranlism?

The Stranger is too busy putting out a "fashion issue." What was that? 34 pages? 23 pages of which was full-page ads from Macy's and the rest we're half-page ads. Total editorial content 9 pages (including half-pages).

All of these went straight to ther trash, no?

Totally green!

Slow day at the Times, Jeff?

While the scourge of Meth ravages communities across the state the DEA blows its horn with a dog and pony show regarding arrests connected to marijuana; a drug that has the lowest possible enforcement procedure by the Seattle Police Dept. I look forward to a new federal administration sacking the personnel in the present DEA and setting priorities that will contribute to the community instead of wasting tax payer's money. Good luck on your new jobs, fellas!

Slow day for you too huh? Haven't seen you tackle this huge issue in yyour pages yet, but it was nice looking at 23 pages of Macy's ads last week!

Hey Times, you're the 'pros' with, you know, time and resources. Why do you do something valuable and beyond reprinting a press release? What you're doing is a disservice to the community. Get better or get the fuck out. Maybe the budget cuts and layoffs and hiring freezes and shutting down of 'bureaus' (read some eastside dude's home office) is because you can't seem to print anything more than milquetoast Connelly, biz press releases and verbatim stories from government officials, offering value to NO ONE.

Yeah, where's the news? Dying violently is what people in Tacoma DO.

How about a balanced, both-sides story on the good and bad youth pastors out there, Dan? When will we see that in The Stranger?

Oh, I forgot: You won't respond.

I will: I've included links to good and decent youth pastors in some of those posts and been called names for it.

And the Stranger does advocacy journalism—and snark. We're not the ones felating ourselves about how fair, balanced, objective we are. This isn't about holding the Stranger to the Times' standards. It's about holding the Times to the Times standards.

And, I'm sorry, but anyone that thinks the Stranger mindlessly glorified drug use really hasn't been reading the Stranger. They've been reading the imaginary Stranger they carry around in their heads and argue with as the stalk the halls at the PI and Times.

Thank you for playing Slog.

I haven't actually seen anyone trying to refute the 'stupid fucking credulous hack' tag, because they can't. Instead they'll attack the messenger. Nice.

Hey Jeff, learn to type you fucking moron.

Hey Dan, Jeff totally burns you with #6. Everything about the fashion issue = garbage.

Hey Jeff, your burn loses its flame when you repeat the same thing with #9. Moron.

Dan wins. Everything.

Yes, thanks for playing Slog. Come by more often. We like you.

On the issue of the legalization of drugs: most people don't realize this, but small quantities of drugs including pot, LSD, heroin and cocaine became legal in Mexico in 2006.

http://www.nytimes.com/2006/04/29/world/americas/29mexico.html

Wouldn't it be interesting to follow up on how Mexican society is affected by this change?

Isn't it interesting how sparsely reported this was? I guess it's disappointing to authorities that the whole country hasn't disintegrated into complete chaos.

@16
No, they didn't. After the Mexican Congress passed that bill, the Bush Administration forced Fox to veto it. Small quantities of those drugs are still illegal in Mexico.

The saddest thing is that Lou Dobbs has actually said on his show that the law passed and is now in effect. The state of our media is beyond the reaches of my cynicism at this point.

Dan: I'm surprised that someone as familiar as you with the practice is unable to spell fellating (multiple times, in reference to the mainstream media, so it ain't a typo...)

Dan: Answer honestly - HONESTLY, like you would demand from someone YOU asked a question:

When you list those good and decent youth pastors in the same post as the criminals, are you doing so to truly provide balance? Or are you doing so because you think there is something in that report that looks suspicious or funny to you. Are you truly pointing out the works of good and decent youth pastors? Or are you pointing out a situation where you think there's a crime waiting to be uncovered?

I question your motives. But if you tell me you're answering honestly and you tell me you're trying to give ink to good and decent youth pastors, I'll stop.

I look forward to your reply.
