Acid is still my favorite of all the substances I've done. It'll always hold a special place for me. And here I was just thinking it was time to do it again...

The good doctor did not invent it, he discovered it. It's a fungus that grows on rye plants and he was looking for something to combat it.
Don't you kids ever do research on your drugs?

@older than you: LSD itself is not a fungus, but rather a man-made chemical that is synthesized from lysergic acid, which is in turn derived from the ergot fungus. And Dr. Hoffman was not looking for something to combat ergot fungus, but rather searching for possible medical applications of ergot derivatives when he first discovered the drug.

Sadly, LSD is the real cause for all the moralistic drug laws we suffer from in our society.

Sigh.

That said, they probably would have used something else to justify finding jobs for all the police to peer into our private lives ...

I can't do that stuff anymore--too many hard-luck bad trips--but at one time I really enjoyed it, and I distinctly remember the feeling that, in a better world, it could have been used to help people become better-adjusted.

I think a lot of users would probably agree with me on that, at least the ones who didn't burn out or do all their tripping at clubs.

I have little doubt that Dr. Hoffman's discovery is a beneficial technology and certainly better for the mind and body than many alternative 'recreational' chemicals. Despite the condemnation of some (usually from those who have little or no experience or knowledge of the drug), the overwhelming evidence suggests a net positive.

Thank you, Dr. Hoffman.

i must have tripped at least 5000 times between 1980 and 1995, and i only had one bad trip, which i attribute to lack of planning and a "girlfriend" who was turning into the psycho-hose-beast-from-hell. RIP Dr. Al... 8(
