Right Back at Ya

posted by on April 18 at 13:34 PM

Demonizing Seattle is a standard campaign ploy … from Republicans.

However, Democratic lands commissioner candidate Peter Goldmark (thank god someone is running hard against GOP incumbent Doug “Washington Aggregate & Concrete Association” Sutherland) is now using the tactic himself.

Goldmark, who ran and lost badly to U.S. Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-5) in ‘06, lives in eastern Washington, and hyped that fact at his Seattle kickoff.

However, in another role reversal, the GOP fired off a press release today condemning Goldmark’s “divisive” ploy of pitting urban against rural voters. Ha. Then they went and pulled the same stunt themselves. From the GOP press release:

Sutherland’s appeal to those who live near and work on Washington’s lands is proven by the fact that 90 percent of Sutherland’s financial support comes from outside Seattle. By contrast, nearly half of Goldmark’s donors are from Seattle and the urban residents he says don’t understand the very job he wants.

Granted: It’s kind of a burn on Goldmark.

Yeah well, when Democrats try to use Republican campaign tricks, oftentimes they just end up looking like douchebags. Anyone who's been following HRC's campaign knows this.

Peter is a bright and lovely man, but he's been kind of misguided since his first wife Georgia died. His campaign against McMorris kind of highlighted that to those that have known him and his family over the years.

so demonizing seattle is a bad thing? then why does your paper demonize everything outside of seattle? unless you really think seattle is beyond reproach. but you wouldn't, because that would be condescending, and you're a shill for hils. right?

@4,

Boy, that's a convoluted comment.

Plus, you should know we're always getting trashed for hating on Seattle.

Peter Goldmark is not from Seattle. He's from Okanagon Co. I don't know what the difference is between "hyping" something and "saying" something. I was at the kick-off, and I didn't get the anti-Seattle vibe. To beat Sutherland, he'll have to appeal to more than just Seattle folks.

At the Seattle kickoff there was a huge applauding Seattle contingent that realizes Goldmark has to win. Sutherland merely carries water for industry not for the citizens of this state -- he has ruined the aquatic reserve program -- using it to help his mining friends.

Go Goldmark! Let's get a Lands Commissioner who cares about the people of this state.
