I found a few episodes on-line a while back. Still funny and there's no way they could be aired today. I mean, a recurring skit featuring kids facing a firing squad? An episode themed around revenge, complete with an opposites sketch where a school principal shows up at the home of a student intent on gunning him down? The red scare one where they get taken over by the Soviets?

I need to search around again.

You Can't Do That On Television rules! And, like all Canadian TV shows, it continues in the long, and still running tradition of having firing squads and mockery of everyone - just check out This Hour Has 22 Minutes (a reference to commercial TV in the USA) and Little Mosque On The Prairie if you're a doubting Thomasina like Fnarf ...

It's true. You really can't do that on television today.

Watching a few episodes on youtube.com today reminded me just how much they got away with.

all those fat jokes directed at girls who weren't actually fat really confused me as a child. i wonder how many young girls developed eating disorders from that show?

I didn't know that, but then, my television probably hasn't been used for more than 20 hours total in the past five years - not counting videos, that is.

Whaadya think's in the burgers?

(FWIW, in retrospect one of my favorite parts about the show was that the Dad's in-character job was "senator".)
