Wow some of those Poor poor tenants can afford a Gucci watch. How do they manage to survive from day to day?

how dreadfully synchronicitous. i have just yesterday decided to move--after many, many years---from my fabulous apartment BECAUSE of my crazy landlord, who, among other things: spies on me, then knocks or calls to comment on private conversations, destroyed my antiques in my storage unit (i found the lot in the garbage), threw my laundry in the garbage just this week, makes up erroneous complaints, comes into the apartments without permission or knowledge of tennants, bullies and brays like a fuckig donkey, and I HAVE FINALLY HAD IT. i am the fuck out. i am the only person they haven't been able to chase out, and i am DONE DONE DONE with his shit. fuck landlords. FUCK THEM.

Adrian, set up an x10 camera and receiver. record it to your PC and if he enters your place again, you have it on film and can sue his ass or just report him.

I have to admit that there are days when I wish I could get my crazy landlord sent to jail.

rent control solves everything. government solves everything.

Rent control ordinances we have in place work great, actually. I experienced more unjust treatment from landlords in Seattle than I ever have here in rent-control SF.

I do wish there was a more-fair way to get rid of problem tenants (clearly, not the issue here), but the situation in free-for-all-rental-laws Seattle didn't differ in that way, either.

From the article:

The couple were also charged with terrorizing two other tenants in the building who began paying the Macys reduced rent after concluding that they were being overcharged under the city's rent control law.
This is actually happening BECAUSE of rent control.

And because the owners are crazy evil bastards.

Rent control enrages building owners. A friend of mine and his lover were killed in a murder-for-hire over an apartment in Greenwich Village in the 80's. Both the contract killer and owner were convicted because his roomate witnessed the shootings from the bathroom and was unharmed. Despite the horrible memories he still lives in the 2 bedroom apt. and pays less than a thousand a month, which for a New Yorker, would cancel out almost any horror.
