Great choice. Foreign policy experience, stature, etc. But not happening. Gore's got a better job (saving the world) and can already run for prez next time if he wants to; he doesn't need to be VP again.

In contrast to any Senator or Governor-- ANY Senator or Governor -- for whom VP puts one in the batter's circle for prez and just as important doesn't let anyone else get next in line. Which is why HRC would take it.

If, that is, Obama offered ..if, that is, he really wants unity and if, that is, he is as smart as Kennedy was. Believe me, Johnson didn't run little 3 am phone call ads -- he told the world that Kennedy was dying of an incurable disease!

BTW if OBama offered this on the qt it could lower the heat now, it could be revealed early June and we start running a unified ticket against McCain in June rather than starting in September.

The choice is Obama's.

It's an interesting idea. Obama could actually look at the Bush/Cheney precedent and say he would turn Gore loose on climate change in much the way Bush turned Cheney loose on war and dismantling the Constitution. Use the same level of VP power, but for good this time. And probably with a little more accountability.

Despite all the character flaws (glad we caught those during the primary), it would be nice to see Hillary chill out, admit defeat, and negotiate the VP spot. Together they'd make this party split issue moot, and she could make her health care agenda happen from that position. It probably won't happen, but it would be nice.

I'd like to see Gore at the cabinet level.

I think Richardson is a good choice: his extensive foreign policy experience (during the early debates about experience he always seemed slightly bemused by Hillary and Obama), solidifying the Latino vote as Democratic, swinging Nevada and New Mexico and possibly Colorado blue. He's not a east coast latte liberal.

He would help along the emerging trend which is the Western Mountain states veering Blue. However, he might not help the other trend: blue-collar Rust Belt states turning Red. He wouldn't help with Florida much either, unfortunately.

While I like Gore I don't think he would necessarily add much to the ticket in terms of states (he wouldn't even bring over his own Tennessee). He just adds some stability and respectibility for those who view the 1990s as good ole days. Most people who like Gore would probably vote Obama anyway, I don't think he really "rounds out" the ticket the way Richardson or, actually, Hillary would.

Err...Richardson doesn't solidify the Latino vote. Actually, he's fairly unpopular here right now. And as a long term resident of NM, can you please tell me how he has turned it around? Mayor Martin Chavez? Absolutely. Richardson has been more worried about bringing movie stars and running for president to help New Mexicans out.

It disturbs me how much the presidency is like a chess game. If we put these people of these races and these genders together...voila!!! This political pary wins. Naive of me, I know.

Who is the president who is going to fight to legalize gay marriage, establish fair trade, etc...? Ooops, less popular to ask.

I mean this as an attack at no person. It's just my frustration with this election in general :(

well well well.

--turns out DNC already caving in on seating those FL and MI delegates.

--but oh no remember how Obama was so good at insider sharp elbow "old style" politics.....to get other people thrown off the ballot in his first race? He could do the same again here!

--who knew ? the whole thing might depend on super duper insiders 25 in number yet to be appointed by one man who could thus decide the whole thing. Will be fun to watch this disenfranchisement debate and super insider process on national TV.

--I bet if the FL and MI delegations don't get seating to vote for O/C they'll just walk out of the whole convention. That'll be nice on national TV too!

--or better yet: what if they have a civil rights protest on national tv about not having the right to vote??
Maybe the Obama delegates and Chairman Howardsky Ilyich Deanskykov will turn on the fire hoses ? Call the Denver cops to throw them out physically?

Charge them with "disorderly conduct" and fill up the Denver jails??

That'll make some fine TV in late August!

I am a resident of NM as well, and have personally been effected by what he's done. Such as his health care plan ($4000 trip to the emergency room ended up costing me $20, for example) And him bringing in the film business has brought tons of great-paying jobs to tons of people who would be working in a salon, construction, or any other mundane low-paying gigs. He fought for Terminator 4 to get shot here, which is a 9 month long shoot bringing work to 600 residents of NM.
