It's too much to hope for. Oh but wouldn't it be grand?

Treaded carefully? Trod? Trod carefully.

And don't tease me with Bush and Cheney going to jail. It's cruel and I'm in a fairly fragile state about all that, you know.

We all know that 5 minutes after Bush leaves office Cheney will be on his way to the UAE so he can watch the collapse of our economy from the Burj Dubai.

This is how I'd like the campaign to proceed. Decent folk have been outraged by the torture decision and its evident lack of consequences. I hope HRC takes this up too and makes the Dem contest into who can stir up the most outrage over administration policies.

And that folks, is why this man must be President....

Most misleading headline ever.

Obama says that, if elected, he will instruct his Attorney General to look at what evidence already exists, and if warranted to then do some investigating, and if that turns up evidence of crimes that might have been committed, and if there is strong evidence that crimes were knowingly committed, *then* he would follow the principle that nobody is above the law.

That's a far cry from "Obama pledges to ail Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Yoo, et al."

Never gonna happen. Non-story. Nothing to see here. Please move along.

@10, I noticed that too. It's not that this is a non-story, it's just that Dan is projecting an entirely new, different meaning to what Obama said. I think Obama is being very careful and (probably appropriately) diplomatic here, but where's the part about the "pledge" or the "jail"? Don't they teach stuff like Accurate Headlines 101 in journalism school?

All he'd really have to do is publicly release all the presidential records from the last 20 years, and Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rove, and all would spontaneously combust.

Journalism school? No, I don't think so. Some of us really did go to journalism school, and the difference is quite noticeable, thank you. (Hey, I guess all that money wasn't wasted after all!)

Everybody knows that GW is running out the clock to get his "get-out-of-Jail-free" card. When the Democrats win the White House, they will instantly and completely forget all the crimes committed by the Bush Administration.

OTOH, if the situation were reversed and it was a Democratic administration in office, you can bet that the Republicans would be detailing which maximum security prison they intended to send the presumed guilty Dems to.

The Democratic party is all cowards. As much as I like Obama, this is an inescapable fact. He can't make spines magically appear in congress - especially to a bunch of cowards that prefer re-election to justice and honor. They will do nothing. It will be the world community that ultimately holds the Bush administration responsible for their war crimes.

its a dream. Justice and the law is for the poor. Does anyone actually think the Bush/Cheney administration will have a comeuppance for even 5% of their crimes? Come on now. Nixon got pardoned for gods sake!
