I can't confirm it with anyone at the museum at this hour, but I have it on good authority: Maxwell L. Anderson (former Whitney director over Rinder and current Indianapolis Museum of Art head) let it drop a few minutes ago in a podcast I did with him while he was in Seattle for a public talk. He said the appointment was made official tonight. Here's Rinder's Wiki page, on which I discovered something I did not know about the noted curator: His first play, “The Wishing Well," co-authored with Kevin Killian, premiered in 2006.

Jen -- posting so late? Are you drinking meth water?

Now, I really am not invested in any of this but I'm happy if a good leader has gone to a good arts organization.

What I am invested in, however, is the Indianapolis Museum of Art. I remember, as a boy of 11, attending the welcome party for Robert Indiana's LOVE sculpture. I remember being introduced to the works of J.M.W. Turner, T.C. Steele, and being allowed by my parents to check out works from the rental gallery for a month. One of my most cherished acquisitions is a signed Robert Indiana print of his IMA inaugural exhibitions poster.

Thanks, Jen, for mentioning what was for me a profoundly influential organization.

What a scoop!! All my friends have been on the edges of our seats for weeks -- who will it be? Who will take the helm of the Berkeley Art Museum? I could barely sleep. I never imagined it would be Larry Rinder! Larry Rinder, of all people? Everyone I know is in absolute shock. It's all we're going to talk about this morning at brunch.
Keep up the great work -- you beat every other news outlet on this too-good-to-be-true story. You're so awesome, you really know what your readers care about. Bravo, Jen Graves!

The anthology gathers texts commissioned for, occasioned by, or just vaguely related to the back room series of talks and dinners, in Portland. Larry and Kevin Killian were both featured guests in 2006.
