Walking across that bridge freaks me the fuck out. I constantly envision myself somehow falling into the traffic.

Whatever you do, stay out of the way of the bicyclists on the Ballard Bridge. They don't take kindly to pedestrians using their sidewalk.

You know, you can count to 1024 in binary on your hands. Helps keep from losing count. Then again, someone might actually see you counting in binary on your hands.

Unfortunately, the Ballard Bridge is a shared use path. Cyclist don't like it anymore than pedestrians - even less, I would wager. There is an etiquette to sharing the narrow pathway. For cyclists, slow down, verbally let pedestrians know you're apporoaching and wait for an amenable passing location. Pedestrians, for their part, need to be aware that bicycles are forced to use this bridge and expect to negotiate passing when needed. My experience is that if we're all polite and considerate, things go smoothly.
