What are the rules of "Illegal Immigrant Tag"? If an illegal immigrant touches you, do you become illegal too? It sounds like fun! And a little kinky.

I know it's hard, but please, please, please, try not to give the College Republicans attention. Your liberal rage really is the only thing that gives them validation in this world, offering them something to momentarily distract them from the deep, dark, gaping void within their empty souls.

It's a lot demographics. Mexico in particular boomed from 40mn people in 1960 to 100 mn in 2000. Jobs, schools, and economic infrastructure wasn't put in place for all those people, so many have been leaving, but the population boom is over now, and they will likely slow down their immigration.

Protesting this kind of dumb shit is basically what these pantywaists would like to goad you well-intentioned people in to doing.

Best would be to let them play their pointless game alone, and have the spotlight to themselves.

What a bunch of cockroaches.

Take tsm's advice. They (the CR's) want you to get pissed and make a big deal about it, because a) it gives their little persecution-complexed egos a big stroking, and b) it draws attention to their (shitty, ignorant, racist) message.

Protest, but be subtle about it. Rub some crisco into the Hub lawn before the "tag" starts and hope for a few broken legs.

Someone should show up and demand proof of ID - not a driver's license - from all the neocon Republicants - and if they don't have them, hogtie them and stripsearch them on the grounds they look "suspicious" due to their skin color (pinkish white) and obvious accent (Pacific Northwestern).

See how they like being "racially profiled" ...

I really wonder if these intellectual lightweights ever even consider the ways they personally benefit from undocumented workers.

Not saying there's not an imbalance or a labor market distortion. There very much is. But I wonder if their vision of their perfect future is "everything just like today, but with less brown people in our country talking that funny language".

There would be huge adjustments, some of which dimwits like the CR have NO contingency plan in place to deal with.

Um, so I guess this means we're NOT having class on the HUB lawn that day.

Swear to God if I see anyone I know participating in these shenanigans, I'm cracking skulls.

I grew up in Nogales, which is a border town, and my parents still live there. My mother especially laments the overabundance of border patrol agents-- especially because they do nothing.

You'll see a patrol car go in one direction and a small group of dirty, rushing families jump into the back of an SUV. Or a parked agent prepared to mess with any Mexicans driving by. Power trips abound, but very few of them are useful.

When I would cross the border with my mother as a child, they would often separate us and ask me questions like what my birthday was, who the President was, where I went to school. (She looks gringa and I am morena.) I've been detained, questioned, and pulled over because of my dark hair and olive skin many times, and so has my father.

I thus developed a dislike of Border Patrol from childhood-- not for what they do, but for how they treat other human beings. Even U.S.-born citizens of Mexican descent like myself can't be comfortable on the border.

So they're... what? Going to go up to people and ask for their papers?

Fucking hell. Wonder if those same young republicans don't eat pork/beef products. (There are often illegals working in US slaughterhouses, after all.)

Used to live down the way from SMU in Dallas, where their "Young Conservatives of Texas" did this sort of thing at least once, if not twice, both times to great effect of getting press and riling up both sides. They pulled these sorts of things all over Texas, in fact -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Young_Conservatives_of_Texas ... if anything, these dorks in Washington should be bashed for being so blatantly unoriginal. Amateurs.

I just watched the Dog Whisperer episode of South Park in which Cartman becomes tame because he is ignored and dominated. Why can't we treat this sort of shit in the same way? TSST.

Yes, less-well-dressed college students making signs and chanting slogans has always worked in this day and age. Maybe they'll have speakers about legalizing weed and genocide in Darfur and freeing Mumia while they're at it.

Watch the non-ideologues on both sides of the political spectrum attempt to avoid you.

Will in Seattle (10) is on to something! Might I suggest cavity searches, just to make sure they aren't hiding anything.

Hmmm. While we're purging based upon legalities, how about rounding up all the pot-smoking Republican college students or those cruising the bathrooms with a wide-stance?

Oh, make sure to ask them why they all aren't over in Iraqistan fighting their party's precious War On Terror--ya know, so we don't HAVE to fight them HERE?

Oh god; this is the same kind of the crap that the UW College Republicans have pulled in the past with things like the "Affirmative Action Bake Sale" where the price was determined by your race or the "Animal Rights Barbecue" which was self-explanatory. The sad part always was that if you actually asked them about the issue good luck trying to get an actual explanation.

Yeah, why protest when you could punch the the guy who came up with it in the face? It would be so much more satisfying.

this isn't news. some college repuglicans in LA did this back in april 07, and a few other chapters have done this since. it was shocking the first time, now it's just cliche.

@3, 6... i agree, protesting gives them media coverage which is used to raise money, they are the most well funded club on campus. dirty little secret i went to their shindigs for a month. however, its hard not to feel rage when you see them doing their truly fucked up propaganda pieces. when they had the minority bake sale a couple of years ago i only wanted to beat them with their own cookies.

the worst part of that day was seeing a bunch of high school kids, mainly of color, have to walk through that ugliness to get into the hub.

but since people won't ignore it, i think its worthwhile to broadcast these events and highlight their jackassery. they are rove-ites and they drive away alot of moderates.

Coincidentally, Tuesday the 15th is also "Hunt Down UW College Republicans with Paint Ball Guns Day". Should be fun.

Young Conservatives held a similar event at UT. Or tried to, until the UDems got wind of it and stopped it.

I'm just surprised this racist hate extends so far north.

*Sigh*
