RSS icon Comments on Henry to Sounders FC?

The guy's kind of old, not unlike David Beckham.

But he does look hot in those gilette ads with roger federer and tiger woods.

I hope updates on Sounders FC are few and far between on Slog. Really, professional soccer in the US is just one step above high school football--and in some parts of the country many steps below it.

It's the NASL all over again. Can Pele re-unretire?

This is ridiculous. Henry is not coming to Seattle, or to the USA before the end of the World Cup in 2010. No one who can play in the World Cup in 2010 is.

That said, Henry is ten billion times more exciting—and better—than Beckham ever was.

Henry's a year or two past his best, but he's still lightyears ahead of the typical MLS shlubs. Just two years ago he wasn't just good, he was unbelievable -- and I say that as a diehard Arsenal hater. I'd be THRILLED to see him play here.

Unfortunately, there's no new substance in this rumour rehash.

The timing doesn't work out either. Seattle won't start playing till next mid-april. The upcoming transfer window closes August 31st.. so if Henry wants out of Barca NOW (as all these rumours are implying) he wouldn't be playing for 8 months if his destination is Seattle. Not gonna happen.

If (big if) it is going to happen he probably wouldn't join till the end of the first Sounders season after playing another season in a European league then taking a month or so off.

It is the NASL. But it would rule.

Juande Ramos's mother is a whore.

c'mon, we can dream, can't we? I'm still hoping St. Louis will get a team before Beckham retires.

I've been covering my ears to this since it first started circulating, mostly because I really, really don't want to get my hopes up about it. Because damn if I don't want this to happen very much. I don't care how old he is, the chance to see Thierry Henry do anything in person for a season is amazing.

Juande Ramos's mother can beat up Arsene Wenger with one arm tied behind her back.

We'll see Kasey Keller or Marcus Hahnemann in goal long before Henry shows up.

As for the MLS, it's actually improved a lot since '94. Columbus would be fighting for a playoff spot in the English Championship (their weirdly named second division).

Saying it's "just above high school" is silly. And having seen fourth division English football, give me high school. It's far better.

I'd prefer Marcus- even for a goalkeeper, Keller is getting up there. But it's not like I'll say no to him anyway.

(Arsene Wenger probably knows some kind of super-obscure martial art, and could totally kick some ass.)

Even Allen and Roth do not have enough $$$ to drag Henry away from the Jordanesque endorsement deals he's got going in Europe. It'd be like LeBron James going to play in Moscow for some Russian billionare's team.

Also, Liverpool sucks.

I know this is never going to happen, But I want to hold out the hope that one day I can watch him do his stuff live (and not on some goofy off season tour). Henry may be 2 years off his prime, and his stint this year with Barca has been pretty lame, but fuck if he doesnt come off as a pretty down to earth guy who can still bust out the mad skills every now and then. He could fucking run circles around Blanco and Beckham.

My aging soccer star is faster than your aging soccer star!
