Godspeed, Lady Goertzen

Yesterday brought some damn sad news from beloved KOMO news queen Kathi Goertzen, who announced that she’ll be undergoing a third surgery for a (blessedly non-cancerous) brain tumor.

The surgery was scheduled for this morning, and here’s hoping it all went as well as can be.

To see Goertzen’s pre-surgery video message, check out the KOMO 4 website. (And for a good profile of Goertzen/explanation of her current situation, check out the Seattle P-I.)

If anything goes wrong, they could always call Mr. West.

Once I served as her poll watcher back when she took her first leave from the station.

She was always nice, even when she didn't feel that great.

if she's a queen then you can't use the honorific 'lady'

Maybe the radiation will tone down the helmet hair.

4: She is a colloquial queen, but a real lady.

I wish her the best, but I did find myself how many cameras they used in this shoot, a la "Broadcast News". And maybe they could turn the Enya down a bit in the living room when they're taping a personal message?

Meanwhile, Jean Enersen continues to shoplift and road rage in perfect health. Life is so unfair sometimes.

Good catch on the Enya.

It's really sad that she's going through this for the third time. I feel awful for her and her family, as this has to be a terrible situation.

I knew people on SLOG would be nasty, no matter what. Way to go.

Agree with brappy. I wish her well. Some of you are so mean.

What is nasty is that KOMO is and has exploited her private medical help for ratings under the guise of being a "human interest story". That is what is totally sick about KOMO and Geortzen is playing right along. She could say that it involves only her and her family and cooworkers but not the viewing public. But guess what, it is a public event. This is what happens when the news covers anything else but the news.

Anyone who doesn't love Kathi Goertzen should kill themselves.

When I was in high school I had a teacher who was diagnosed with what ended up being a terminal brain tumor. Kathi Goertzen had never met this woman but heard about her one way or another. She got in contact with the family and spent a few days helping them to figure out the treatment process and sharing her experiences. I can’t think of anyone I know who would do the same thing for some they had never met before.

I hope Kathi comes out on top of this one because she deserves it.

for cryin out loud, this woman READS the news... whoopdeedoo...

can someone explain to me how her tragedy is somehow deserving of mass sympathy, and she of mass adulation...

how is the quiet tragedy of the un-"famous" any less deserving?

it's a sick society that lavishes love on a talking head on the TV and doesn't take care of the truly needy.

Oh, and I'm guessing the 6K a month for medicine isn't going to cramp HER lifestyle much

@21 - It's all part of the "no man is an island" zeitgeist - sorry for your lameness - a condition also to be mourned.

I personally thought it was moving when last night on KING 5 the anchors wished their friend well right there as one of the top stories

it was nice =]

I got teary-eyed when she returned from her last hiatus and Dan Lewis said "Please don't ever leave me again."

I'm home with an IV line after my second brain surgery! I wish Kathi the best- it may get a little easier the second/third time around, but it's depressing having to go through it again and it's still nice knowing people care and people are sending you good thoughts and prayers- so GO KATHI!!!

I love KG. I hope she gets well soon. I just like her, even if I don't care what she's talking about.
