He really does sound crazy. But then all those religious types sound insane to me. I know he's not helping any if that's the question.

I would be willing to bet he's getting payments from Hillary.

a lot of what wright is saying is not that far from the truth. some of it a bit out there, but not what i would call crazy.

people forget that a lot of people use to call dr. king a crazy pastor when he spoke out against racism, but now everybody embraces a part of dr. king but safely ignore his more progressive and radical sermons.

by the way dan, the "crazy" pastor's church is welcoming to gays and lesbians in chicago which is more than i can say for a lot of the mainstream catholic churches in the north side.

just saying.

I've agreed with pretty much everything that Wright has said, like that we fuck over the poor and our disastrous foreign policy is making the world hate us, etc. But then, I've taken the time to read his comments in their entirety.

Bad news for us Barry fans, though. I caught an interview on CBC a few months ago with one of Obama’s foreign advisors, Susan Rice (oh please FSM help me, no relation) who stated that he will keep troops in Afghanistan until at least 2011.

Then there’s this article that congressional Dumbrats are saying that they won’t allow any changes to our failed, insane healthcare “system” no matter if they do win the presidency.

Lastly, there’s the story this weekend that Obama supports that shameless, testalying, ass-kissing little chickenshit, General Betrayus.

At this point, it doesn’t really matter who ends up in the White House.

Are ya gonna vote for the War Party or the War Party this fall?

Point being that Iraq has practically disappeared from TV news while we focus on Miley Cyrus, Reverend Wright and other crap that isn't killing, maiming and bankrupting us.

@6 - maybe it's disappeared from US TV screens, but it's still on UK and French and Canadian TV screens.

They also show the funeral processions for those killed in the Real War in Afghanistan and the Fake War in Iraq ... while we censor them.

@5,

Being a relation of Condi Rice doesn't necessarily make one a bad person. Connie Rice has done some really amazing work.

I also don't see much of a problem with staying in Afghanistan. That's what we should have done in the first place. Focus on a country that actually was producing and harboring terrorism and not waste time, money, and lives on invading a mostly secular, non-terrorist state.

keshmeshi @ 8,

I can understand your viewpoint, but Afghanistan is another unwinnable quagmire. Allied forces control maybe 40% of the country at best, and the central government in Kabul has absolutely no authority outside the Kabul city limits. Not to mention the fact that our allies are looking for the exits.

Afghanistan is an even worse example of our failed reconstruction efforts than Iraq because we actually had a real opportunity to make things better there but instead they've gotten progressively worse each year. The only thing keeping the rural population from starving to death is heroin production. Basic services are non-existent.

So what's the alternative? Endless war in an intractable, unwinnable conflict? By 2011, we'll have been at war and occupied that country for 10 years.

Dr. Wright, as I call him when I have occasion to speak to him, is the sanest pastor I've ever heard open his mouth. I assume Dan is being sarcastic.

In addition to what Original Andrew said, the current government of Afghanistan wants us to let up on the Taliban. Apparently, their religious views are the right ones.

Admittedly, I don't give a shit if that's what they want. But bombing the Buddhist statues still strikes me as EVIL.

Oh, yeah - and bombing the World Trade Center, too.

@7, I think it drives home the point Will of how unconscionable it is that the US media has stopped reporting on both wars. It really is the conspiracy of big media outlets and the military industrial complex. The lack of public outcry and demand for better reporting just makes me wonder if there is any hope for peace in the future.

Right now, the Administration is tring to undo diplomacy in Pakistan and with respect to North Korea. What are the chances that they'd get caught planning a Gulf of Tonkin incident with Iran, and if they did would it even stave off an attack of Iran? As it becomes more obvious that they were knew they were lying about Iraq, the media seem to have less interest and complete morons like Kristol are working for the NY Times.

Maybe I'm being really dense, but isn't Dan's point that five years and billions of dollars into the American occupation of Iraq, terrorists/freedom-fighters/militiamen are still lobbing rockets and mortars into the apparently-not-do-heavily-fortified "green zone" and the American media are reporting on little besides a Presidential candidate's church's ex-pastor?

It's cool, Phil M; we get it and we agree.

And now we'll have a full Spring and Summer of shark attacks, missing white women, drug wars, sex offenders and idiotic election sniping for the media to obsess over.

@16: Don't worry! I'm scheduled to mysteriously disappear in Cancun in late May following the season finale of Lost.

Stay tuned!

@13 - we are trying - over the last few months we've ginned up multiple "reasons" for attacking but so far most of the media aren't playing along, thank god.

Iran - not gonna do it.
