This is so sad. She walked to the corner store, and when she got back all of her children had been murdered.
I'm unclear what the point is here - other than to post an unspeakably tragedy. In Canada, anyone - mother and father, father and father, mother and mother - can do unspeakable acts to their children.
Oh those crazy Canucks! But hey - at least they weren't shot.
This shouldn't count, seeing how the mother did nothing wrong.
I can't think of anything worse to come home to.
This is why the death penalty always comes back into style eventually.
Key word - stabbings.
Imagine if they used a gun.
And sod off with your 18th century pro-death-penalty American concepts that Canada rejects, you gun fanatic.
The point is that people like to harp on the "mother and father" thing like that is a guarantee of family bliss, but obviously gender has nothing to do with violence and neglect.
I'm working late tonight and am a little drunk. I just noticed this:
...and believe he may be hiding in the bush near Merritt, about 270 kilometres northeast of Vancouver.
(Inside joke. Fuck you.)
Um, it's actually "the bush".
In Canada that is what we call the wilderness areas outside of cities.
Not a specific "bush" that has a nice shack inside it.
Gender has a lot to do with violence.
Thanks, Will! I had no fucking idea! At all! Not even close! In fact, I so had no fucking idea, I didn't even appeal to question! But here you are! Telling me this. Whole thing.
It's hilarious because you probably have no idea how hard I'm laughing right now. At you.
If I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times - Canadians are fucking dangerous!
Bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb bomb BC....
I guess we should get Chertoff going on a fence to the north as well.
I think the point here is that the kids didn't deserve a father, or deserved not to have a father, or something.
God, what a horrible story. I've been hearing it on the news all day.
It's so scary when hetero guys snap like this. Figuring they have to take the ship down with the captain, I guess. Wonder why he didn't kill her, though? He might as well have.
@2, "Every child deserves a mother and a father" has been used as an argument against same-sex adoption.
Not sure what to say. How do you prevent something like that? Thousands of separated couples, many of which involve a troubled ex-spouse, manage to share their kids peacefully. I'm not sure there was any way to see this coming or to prevent it.
The man that did this had mental problems and had been released back into the community by a parole board that conducted his parole hearings over the phone and never saw the suspect. The RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) said he was a danger to the community and insisted he not be released. But he was.
The whole parole hearing system is under review and changes have been stalled for months. But this suspect was released, the authorities knew he was a danger and this is the end result.
So it is not just a man hunt going on but a call for an investigation into the Attorney Generals parole practices since it is partly to blame for releasing this guy.
I was in a car passing Merritt the day after this happened. Merritt is a small town in a beautiful semidesert valley. A major highway moving thousands of vehicles between Vancouver and the Okanagan (wine district in BC) passes right by Merritt which is surrounded by ranch land. Sure this guy could head into the bush but more likely he could also get in a car and be in Vancouver where he could disappear blending into the neglected downtown east side where thousands of mentally ill people live on the street within 2 hrs. But I guess he is one of these guys that thinks he has a chance surviving in the bush.
#9 (Will) - I think Mr. Poe was being dirty. I know, I know, not something he is typically known for. Still. Just Sayin'.
